Here is my contest entry for this year-a WW1 German soldier/vampire hybrid. It is based on a character from the graphic novel, "Baltimore: The Plague Years". These creatures swooped down after battles and fed on the dead and dying soldiers.
It began with the props. I started with the Maxim gun build, seen here:

Next was the helmet, which was originally to be made from boiled leather like the real ones, but didn't quite work out. I ended up using a plastic costume bowler hat and modified it.
Next, I started the sculpt for the facial appliances, which were then cast in foam latex.
I then made acrylic over the gum teeth, ammo pouches, leather harness and trench club (all seen in the WIP thread)
The coat was a heavily distressed, muddied and bloodied Swiss army coat I bought online.
Here is the original build thread with more pics: http://www.therpf.com/f62/wwi-vampire-bat-creature-sculpt-wip-140634/
I've been making costumes for cons and Halloween for around 15 years or so.
I forgot to take a pic in costume Sat. night with proof, but here is the appliance and helmet, with my RPF badge from DragonCon.
