blueprint dimensions (where do I get the width of something from one side?)

So I'll go right to it: I want to build a decent Gauss Flayer from Warhammer 40k. There are tons of pictures, but It's quite difficult for me to be able to make blueprints with the right dimensions, I only have one side of the gun to work with. Someone told me to blow up the picture until it was the size I wanted and to print the picture on paper. Again, I only have the length of the gun and not the width. Here is what I plan to work off of: my working picture.JPG Now, you see that I don't have a side view of the gun; so I don't have the width of the grip, barrel, or anything else. What do you think? Is there some cool trick? I'm completely new to prop building so I'm open to whatever you've got. Thank you so much for your time!

I was partway through a long response and I think I was answering the wrong question. By "width" to you mean how far between this side of the weapon and the side you do not see? If so then it might not be as hard as you think.

1. Follow the advice you were given and enlarge that picture to the size that "feels right" for you. Make sure that whatever you use to do the enlarging keeps the height and length at the same ratio.
2. That orange tube looks like a cylinder to me and looking at the pictures on this site this artist agrees. http://forums.filefront.com/sw-jk3-modding-mapping-editing/442200-wip-gauss-flayer.html. You can measure the diameter of that tube from the side and know it will be the same from the top. Using those pictures and the size you made the tube you should be able to figure out the depth.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the advice. I looked at the grip (when a Necron holds it, their hand covers half of it) so I got the average width of an adult male hand which is 3.3 inches, multiplied that by 2 to get 6.6, got my Necron miniature and measured the grip and found that it was 35.2 times smaller than the average width of a hand, multiplied 35.2 times the length of the gun (1.4375 inches), and found that the overall length of the gun should be 50.6 inches. Do you agree? it seems that the scale of the gun is 1:35.2. I just wanted to show you the math and I hope that you agree with what I've found. What do you think?
