Anyone know what in the **** this is? Obviously it's a Blue Thunder but WTF!!!

As all Blue Thunder fans know the mock up they built for close up shots was left to deteriate on a back lot and despite numerous attempts by fans was not allowed to be saved and is now gone.

The story I always heard was the two actual flying helicopters were used for a couple other things and then stripped of their parts and turned back into regular Gazelles.

What is this then??????

Re: Blue Thunder??????????

Wow...that's really a Franken-Thunder and confuses me a bit....

...looks like someone was trying to build a replica...on the cheap...that will never fly...

It's certainly not that close to the original:

Re: Blue Thunder??????????

What's confusing me is that is not a real Gazelle fuselage, but a very close facsimile. However, whoever tried to re-create it modeled it after the Gazelle, and not Blue Thunder. I'm thinking this was a prop of a non-flying Gazelle helicopter used in some movie, and this guy must have purchased the shell and tried to make it into Blue Thunder.

Re: Blue Thunder??????????

The old Goldern Fleece petrol pump tells me its somewhere here in Australia.
Would be a great long term project as an elaborate toy.

Re: Blue Thunder??????????

Blue Thunder is due for one of those reimagining movie things. Although, I would guess CGI would be used in todays day and age. I'll always hold a special place in my heart for those fantastic real-life helicopter stunts in the film.

A few ambitious guys tried that with Airwolf and that was soooo close to being completed when things just came to a halt and it was never finished.

I think I remember it selling on Ebay for 60K.

Good find! And it looks like some work was really put into it from those pics, but it certainly does not look to scale as the ad states.

Re: Blue Thunder??????????

If i had a lazy 6 gorillas, id drive up and make an offer on this, would be a blast.

Re: Blue Thunder??????????

Shame. "Would make a great kids."

Gotta love maximum character reqs. on Internet ads. :lol

Re: Blue Thunder??????????

He`s actually got two potential ads in one, i bet he gets way more calls about the Goldern Fleece pump than the chopper. If its original, the pump that is, its potentially worth more.

Re: Blue Thunder??????????

I wish someone would pick this up. It actually looks pretty cool and since there is nothing of Blue Thunder left.

I don't think it would be hard to finish this thing.

Too bad I live in California.

Re: Blue Thunder??????????

While I'm at it does anyone know where to get a good size Blue Thunder RC body. The ones in the 58" range usually go for $200 to $300. The best and most accurate Airwolf goes for $300.

I'm just talking about the body shell.

The only Blue Thunder one I can find goes for 1k. There is also a 7ft one that goes for $2,500.

Re: Blue Thunder??????????

Wow, Golden Fleece. That's been a while.

I grew up two doors down from one of their servos and i remember the day they knocked it over, i mean everything, big light up Ram and all, the pumps were THROWN in the truck, no wonder anything original goes for a packet.

Is there any way you could modify a cheaper RC jameth? sounds like a good project.

That's what I'm hoping. I want to have an Airwolf and Blue Thunder in the 58 inch range. That's the .50/600 size I believe. I don't want to make them RC but rather Studio Scale type models.

Then I'm going to have full helmets for each. I have a thin Airwolf shell I will turn into the ultimate Airwolf helmet. I'm also looking for a Dual Visor HGU for the Blue Thunder "Harrison Fire Control Helmet."

Picture each helmet next to a 4 1/2+ ft model.

This guy has a decent one that's pretty cheap for a 450 size. It's not completely accurate (the tail rotor is wrong, but since you're only using it for a scale model, you could use one of those micro computer fans or something. Also, you can buy a tri blade rotor assembly for the main rotor). For less than $150, the price is right and you can augment it.
