Blade Runner F.C. - Frank Darabont's Spinner

Hi, Just got to watch the 5 disc edition of Blade Runner, final cut and saw something incredible. It was Director Frank Darabont showing off his own personal lighted replica of the Police spinner. It was a thing of beauty!!!

See it here: http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=29833&page=11&highlight=spinner

Does anyone know anything about the model? I'm looking to find out who made it and if they are willing to do a commissioned spinner for my collection.

If not, Perhaps, offering a kit of some kind. Any help would be much appreciated?

Here are some more frame grabs.

Wow, beautiful detail on that model! He looks pretty pleased with it. :love

Great caps, phase. Thanks for posting those. :thumbsup

In the video you can see that the lights are really dim on Frank's spinner (the flashers on top are barely blipping), perhaps the batteries are low.

Also the bulbs appear to be incandescent rather than LEDs like folks would use today. So perhaps this was done some years back?

Are the flashers on top illuminated in any of the caps you posted above? I would have guessed not.

From those figures I could see in the cockpit, I thought it looked like a Monsters In Motion spinner that was decked out.

Nice job on those lights!

Really? That's the Anubis/MiM Spinner?

If so, wow! Someone really went to town on it. Shows just how much potential that kit has! :eek

It IS an Anubis spinner. I can't say how I know. It took quite a while to build it and get it in that shape.

I haven't finished going through all of the "Makings of" on the disks, which section does that segment show up in?

There's a segment on "fans" of Blade Runner, and Darabont and Guillermo Del Toro are in there.

Amazingly, there's NO-THING on the Deckard blaster or repros of it! Not a gorram sausage!

There's one little clip where Gary Willoughby from Bladezone is showing off his Syd Mead concept blaster, and you can see Deckard blasters in the background. But that's it.

And of course the guy who owns Deckard's shirt.

Wow, the irony! I just sold my Anubis kit to someone on the rpf. I've owned it for years and never built it because I never thought it had that potential! I was wrong.

BTW, MIM does not sell this kit anymore on their site. Does anyone know why?

I was kind of surprised to not see it on their site anymore. A few years ago I had bought one from them and I really tore into the insides removing the figures and interior.

Looking at Frank Darabonts Spinner model is very inspiring.

That is absolutely the Anubis/MIM Spinner.

Not is it the only model of its size, it has the passengers with the goofy headsculpts.

For those who have never seen this kit; you have no idea how much work it takes to true up this model, let alone to make it look this good.

From the story that came out of Anubis: the master was sculpted in under 3 days including figures. It showed in the raw castings. I sold mine when I realized that it would be easier to build a new one from scratch than to try to fix one of these.

This finished model looks like a labor of love.

Sweet grabs! I have been watching the 5 disc edition now for over 2 weeks

Yeah, it's the Anubis - but with a whole lotta love (or curse words). The big thing with the Anubis was that the front wheels looked oversized. I'm pretty sure I saw those castings at one of the very first Mad Model Party shows (LA's version of Wonderfest back in the early 90's).

I'm pretty sure I've seen that buildup here is the LA area at one of the various model competitions. I think I know who built it. At least, I know who I would name as a suspect...............
