Blade Runner Blaster Functionality?

Eh, I always just took the 2nd trigger as being dedicated to a secondary and much heavier ammunition. The shot Deckard takes at Batty is ridiculously loud and causes some kind of explosion. I figured that for the 2nd trigger in action, whereas the shots that go into everyone else (Zhora, Leon, Batty's ear) are regular loads. They still seem to do plenty but .44 will tend to do that. I guess you could pick the forward magazine or the rear cylinder and decide which goes with which if you wanted. That's just how it all worked in my head at least. I guess the bolt could just be explained as a cylinder/magazine release for either system.

Leon's "black hole gun" singularity round, since it was mentioned. It's pretty unmissable at any speed, I always liked it as another cool and strange little detail, from a time when such things didn't need a prequel trilogy dedicated to demystifying them;

Edit: Wow, that looks really odd. Not color inverted or anything, it's just the frame when the muzzle flash is blowing out everything.

I have also been thinking about the function recently ...

What if the same bullets could be fired at different speeds, and as solid or explosive?
Low speed would be used in space vessels where you would want to avoid risking rupturing the walls, but that would not have much stopping power -- which is why a bullet could also be charged/heated up into a state in which it would explode on impact. This explosive feature is what would make the gun a blaster.

Rounds would have to be heated quickly, so it would be done using a nuclear reaction inside the blaster. The blaster would take bullets rated to absorb ".222 Rem" (Rem being the unit of absorbed radiation) -- which would be why it is printed at the bottom of the magazine.
The front trigger would start charging the next round - and when the round is fully charged, the green light comes on to indicate readiness.
The rear trigger would fire the projectile, charged or not.

It is harder to hit a moving target with slower projectiles, so there would also be a targeting system that could steer projectiles mid-flight where the operator is pointing the gun. This would be done using a maser (like laser but using microwaves), emitted from the front of the receiver just above the barrel.

Oooooer - that's interesting thinking. Steerable projectiles :thumbsup

The B R gun was made for looks like most hand props..the inside revolver is just so the thing can go boom, simple as that, there is no explanation of function as the micro examination of movie props as afforded by modern tech could not have been envisioned when the film was made..even mobile phones don't show up in the original movie.. I've got a blaster , just a cast prop that I display with dummy shells but never worry about how it would work ( yes I do sometimes sneak about the house looking for imaginary replicants to retire ) and that's the key word imaginary .. I saw B R when it came out and loved the gun way more than the film..didn't have to know how it worked, but could tell it was a cartridge gun ..and as a gun guy like me, not bothering about the function is saying a lot ! !

Yes, but this thread is for fun and for those who'd want to add something like light and sound to make their blasters a bit more interactive.

Different collectors and builders have different takes on what kind of props they want. Some want 100% accuracy to the actual props. Others want idealised props with all the bells and whistles that would make sense within that universe.
There have been numerous discussions about different views over the years.

I get it yes, it's fun to ponder the function, I guess I'm not very curious..I would, even as an experienced gun tinker struggle to explain the B R gun..on a side note in the 1940s Stembridge gun rentals made up cast hollow Lugers & put a small revolver inside it with blanks because real ones at that time where a hard find ..guns inside props ..not a new thing as we know ..I think Mal' s Serenity blaster had a real gun in it ..

And the Season 1 BSG blasters, which were reportedly influenced by the BR gun.

Lots of movie guns have real ones hidden inside..Aliens,L O EX Gentlemen, 5th Element..& many sci fi movies..pre CG it was a common thing..I think it was way better ..
