Blade Runner 2049 Holster and Scanner Builds

I'm currently working on a K cosplay build and have visited here a few times looking for reference photos and guides, so first thank you all so much :)

I've printed out K's blaster based on Juri Pranjic's (patreon) design and am currently building the holster for it. Huge credit to buzby for the photos and measurements. I only have the top band left to go, otherwise progress is below:

Once completed I plan to upload on Thingiverse so others can use (and modify) it for their own cosplays. I'm hoping to get some feedback from Blade Runner fans here on what needs to be modified to be a bit more screen accurate - as it is, I'm erring on the side of usability for now - the opening at the base, and the width of the pieces fit my blaster just fine. It looks like there's also a felt pad on one side of the holster in the photos I've seen which would be a good idea to protect your finish, but I'm not sure if it's symmetrical.

The other item I'm currently finishing off is the Retinal Scanner. While I'm aware there are some super talented people on here making some of these already, I'm keen to try it myself :) Only thing left to go is getting the springs lined up correctly - the latch works, there's room for switches, LEDs and electronics etc., - and to get a bit of detail on the top part added in. The internal frame is layered into three sections so that a) a circuit board can fit in between and b) the wires can thread through as per the screen prop.

I'm going to use a LCD screen and Teensy board (thanks to Ein for the inspiration), as well as a LiPo battery - and the case is size to fit them all, so some of the scale may be a little off. These are on their way in the post, so when they arrive, I'll post an update that will add mounting pads to the case.

If there's anything glaring I'm missed or mistakes I've made, please let me know before I start another round of printing :)

Really looking forward to seeing how the scanner turns out. Please post photos when completed (and hopefully someone will do a run) :)

That's quite an accurate model of a Safariland 1090, but unfortunately very little of the hard parts of the 1090 actually went into K's holster. The only 1090 parts that ended up being used were the curved muzzle cups (which you have modelled, along with the aluminium end plate that was added to widen the space between them). The side plates are completely different, and the top band wasn't used at all.

There appear to be two holsters used in the film (or one holster that was modified during production). There is the 'hero' holster which K can be seen wearing in the police HQ that uses a similar retaining spring loop between the two side plates as used on the real 1090 to retain the pistol in the holster by pulling against the grip/backstrap. My guess is this either proved to difficult to draw from (due to the oval shape of the blaster's barrel getting caught up in the muzzle cups) or was damaging the blaster props in the drawing process (they had a lot of problems with the blasters needing to be repaired and replaced during production, which was one of the reasons for them falling out with PropShop) and so the 'hero' was either modified or a 'stunt' version was made for scenes where a fast draw was required. The spring loop was removed and replaced with a fabric sling between the two side plates that held the pistol in the holster by supporting it under the trigger guard. The 'stunt' version is never seen in the film (in the only shots of K drawing his pistol the holster is hidden under his coat), but it was the version photographed for the Wired article and displayed at SDCC.

Apart from some blurry screen captures (still waiting for someone with the 4K release to capture the same frames I did in my thread in case there's more detail to be seen), the Wired article photo and SDCC photos are the only real reference we have so far. The problem is that it was displayed on it's side and partially obsucred by the harness. so we only have an idea of what the new outer side plate looks like (it bears no resemblance to the original 1090 part). It's all one piece (about 5mm thick), fixed to the outside of the muzzle cup by a single screw (and presumably a recessed nut on the other side) has no fixing point for a suspender strap (i.e. it's right-handed only, not made to be ambi like the 1090 is) and curves up and around the hammer area of the receiver. The inner plate may be a broadly similar shape to the standard 1090 one (it has a loop at the bottom to attach the short suspender strap), but it is not exactly the same. Again, it is all one part, apart from how it fixes to the front cup (it has 2 thin plates that clamp either side of the flat part of the muzzle cup with 2 screws, again presumably using recessed nuts on the inside).

Instead of the flexible band of the 1090, the two side plates are joined togther above the hammer area of the receiver by hex bolts (countersunk on the inner plate, button head on the outer plate) that screw into a piece of threaded metal tube. The metal tube also acts an an axle for a 1" webbing swivel (a triangular part with a slot for the webbing to pass through and a hole for it to swivel on). The rest of the metal tube was covered in heatshrink, rubber tubing or maybe even electrical tape to prevent damage to the pistol as it's drawn past it. This picture from the Kaiju Korner blog's visit to SDCC ( http://kaijukorner.blogspot.com/2017/07/blade-runner-2049-experience-sdcc-2017.html ) is the only one that shows this area in any detail (it's also the only clue as to what the 'butt end' of the inner plate looks like so far), and you can clearly see the paint residue on the underside that's been rubbed off the pistol props:

Massive thanks Buzby for your response - that last photo is one I haven't come across yet, I'd been using the Wired photo trying to figure out the spring replacement.

If I use the profile I can see in (C) combined with the photo above, I'm pretty sure I can rebuild the complete back end. It's the side that's facing down that's all guess work so far. That said, it looks like the rear wing on the lower side is intact like the original Safariland holster, but the top has been cut down so the arm that connects to the front runs all the way back in a similar profile, and there's a 2" or so slot for the pleather/vinyl swing to attach to. I can now picture it in my head pretty well, so it's time to get back to modeling.

I'll fuse the pieces together once I get the shape correct, as always it's a WIP. (A) is where I'm having a bit of issue figuring it out, like the top it looks like it's fused together, but has "grooves" to make it seem like it's multiple parts. This is where it looks like there's a felt pad to protect the gun. I don't see a matching pad on side (B) though, as you can see the step from one thickness to another. I also need to flare the sides out as they go away from the end cap, but that's relatively easy once I've got the profiles correct.

Thanks for all your help, a lot has clicked now, I'll update again soon :)
