bio shock Sky-Hook build

Hi Guys;
My daughter has decided that I'm looking a bit bored and she had asked me to build a Sky-hook.
When I first saw it, it looked a little daunting, but once started, it is not as bad as I thought.

I have designed it to spin with the gears moving with the hooks.
This is a manual process as I don't have time to design a motorized unit.
Perhaps nest time if I get the urge.

I have no access to any real tools or machines, other than a scroll saw, and bench drill.
I do most of my work with an angle grinder and sand paper.
This is why my builds are never perfect.

The following pictures, are in order of build.
Enjoy

more build photos

All I have to finish now is the brace and a few fiddly bits.
This has been an interesting build.
My daughter tells me now that she wants a Predator spear, with moving expanding joints...............she is pushing the envelope.

Your daughter sounds awesome. I'm wondering haw far she will be able to push you with the props.... full size X-Wing? working Tardis?

Grats on the build, the skyhook looks great!

Thanks Guys
Yeah Uridium, if she thought it was even remotely possible she would have a Tardis tomorrow.
But that is just a tad beyond my capabilities........for now.

I just enjoy the challenge.
The more complex, the more creative I have to be, its a challenge.
With a little luck Ill be finished in a week or two.
Still have the brace to finish (The leather will have to be hand sewn as I have no machine)
And the plate on the top will have to be made from pottery clay and attached as I know of no other way to build it.

In all its a fun project
Cheers

Slowly getting there.
Have the brace done and the main painting finished now.
The hooks rotate and the gears rotate together.

Just the leather of the brace and some plates on the top of the stock to finish now

Not this one Gixxerfool.
You can spin the hooks by hand and the gears spin as well.
I have made it so it spins easily and for several seconds.
I will need to install a small motor and some gears to power the unit.
I was thinking a screw drive under the hooks axle and gears on the axle shaft.

But at the moment it is just a manual spin.
Sorry

this is still amazing and on my short list to build. Great work.

Thanks Mate.
I enjoy building these things and Im sure my daughter looks for the most complex she can find, just to challenge me.

Im saving up for a few tools, but as Im unemployed at the moment (company went to China), I figure it may be a long time coming.

Have fun

Thanks Gixxerfool.
It would be great to have more tools, but with what I have Im reasonably happy.
More importantly, my daughter is happy with the result.

She has given me another project.
The Predator spear.
I want it to be expandable, Im thinking cables and pullies built into it with a sliding actuator on the handle.

Have to do the planning on actuation, so that may take a while.
Cheers

man, that's really great! it looks almost exact to the NECA version! also, that one doesn't use a motor, it just has some gears to spin the blades when you push the trigger; all mechanical, no electric parts

Your hook is neat x10. Can you make a video of it, by chance? I never would've guessed ALL wood upon first glance. You did a real nice job on the dirtying; to the point it looks like metal.

On that note, I wanted to share a few others I've done or found.
Never seen any comment on something like this, but I've seen a few actual motorized (unlike what the box claims) Skyhooks that are also pretty cool.

Someone made a fully working metal Air grabber prop.

But for Infinite:

This is actually my own video. A fully motorized Neca model taken apart to work like in the game. It takes a lot of work and requires dissembling and rebuilding everything, along with soldering, buying a motor, getting some custom components, etc, but if a total novice like me can do it without really knowing the basics, anyone can.
