Best one no one else has mentioned are two from The Shield

When Shane hands Lem the sandwich and tosses in the grenade and when the police storm Shane's hideout and he eats a bullet after he has killed his wife and little boy. That last one was one of the most gutwrenching moments I've ever seen on TV.

Babylon 5: Capt. Sheridan in "Sleeping In Light". He just disappears (or ascends?) on the bridge.

That's a good moment, but I would put his "death" at Z'ha'dum above that one.

Sheridan is lured into going to the Shadow homeworld of Z'ha'dum by his 'altered' wife Anna. He knows it's a trap. He's been told before that he will certainly die if he goes there. So he plans accordingly.

The results are chill inducing.

There are several death scenes in the movie Saving Private Ryan that are extremely hard for me to watch. As a matter of fact, while I typically enjoy war movies (and love Band of Brothers), I avoid Ryan.

The hand-to-hand struggle and eventual killing in this knife fight is the most agonizing thing that I've seen on screen. I looked it up for you guys on YouTube, but stopped watching it after a few seconds.

Yeah the "death of Mellish" in SPR was pretty hard to watch.

Another one I can't watch anymore (as it is just too disturbing) is the death of Sergeant First Class Randy Shughart- the Delta Force Sniper's last stand in Black Hawk Down.
