Best on-screen Movie or Tv Deaths Possible Spoilers

There are several death scenes in the movie Saving Private Ryan that are extremely hard for me to watch. As a matter of fact, while I typically enjoy war movies (and love Band of Brothers), I avoid Ryan.

The hand-to-hand struggle and eventual killing in this knife fight is the most agonizing thing that I've seen on screen. I looked it up for you guys on YouTube, but stopped watching it after a few seconds.

Yeah the "death of Mellish" in SPR was pretty hard to watch.

Another one I can't watch anymore (as it is just too disturbing) is the death of Sergeant First Class Randy Shughart- the Delta Force Sniper's last stand in Black Hawk Down.

three immediately come to mind:

Wicked Witch in Wizard of Oz
Henry Blake in MASH
Spock in TWOK, though bringing him back cheapens it.

When I think of "good death scenes", I think of the ones that had the biggest emotional impact. So I'll have to agree with Roy Batty and Jack Shepherd. Actually, quite a few from Lost, now that I think about it.

My picks:

Most memorable death: Kowalski from "Vanishing Point" (1971). The closest video I could find of it was the Audioslave music video "Show Me How to Live", in which they took the original movie and inserted the band into the shots: YouTube - Audioslave - Show Me How To Live

Most peaceful and heartbreaking death: Laura Roslin from the re-imaging "Battlestar Galactica"- Can be seen in the first couple of minutes of this video: YouTube - Battlestar Galactica Last 10 Minutes

Best Annoying Celebrity Who Shouldn't Even Be A Celebrity Death: Paris Hilton in the remake of "House of Wax" - YouTube - PARIS HILTON DEATH

The most horrific reminder of how murder isn't as simple in film: The death of Gromek from "Torn Curtain". I couldn't find a full video of it itself, but found a discussion about it that has the footage: YouTube - Writing with Hitchcock: The Killing of Gromek (and His Brother) & The Demise of Hitchcock's Villains

Cheesiest Murder in a Major Motion Picture: The Deaths of Columbia, Frank-N-Furter and Rocky at the hands of Riff-Raff from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" (I couldn't find a video of it on YouTube).

The Death that Made Me Cry the Most: The end of Uncle Bob from "Terminator 2"- YouTube - Terminator 2 Judgment Day - Ending Scene

Charleton Heston as Taylor in Beneath The Planet of the apes.
and in the Omega Man.

Also Edward G Robinson's death in soylent green where he simply goes to sleep with classical music playing.

I'll throw in my vote for Boromir's death in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. The part where Aragorn is talking to him at his end. Good stuff. :)

Totally agree with this one!

The most touching I ever saw was TV when Anthony Edwards character died on ER. Maybe it was because my geat aunt was dying of the same thing at the time, but it was really emotional.

Major Kong's bomb ride was my favorite death ever though.

I might think of others I like better later on, but the first one that comes to mind is William H. Macy's character in "Boogie Nights." It's just very well timed. They're counting down to New Year's, and he walks in on his wife with another man(yet again). He goes out to the car, gets his gun, returns to the party. From the bedroom, you hear two shots, then he comes out, smiles, and shoots himself. Later on, there's a portrait of him in front of where he died.

I can't believe noone has mentioned it...

Babylon 5: Capt. Sheridan in "Sleeping In Light". He just disappears (or ascends?) on the bridge.
