Best Helmet for first painting project?

So I am developing a bit of a thing for helmets and feel like that might be a good way to contain my prop interest and focus collecting.

I know I want eventually have the following helmets: Dredd, Boba Fett, OT Stormtrooper

Ones I like and may have someday if I found them at the right price: Darth Vader, At-At driver, Tie Pilot, Tusken Raider (not really a helmet)

I'm also a fan of many video game (SF mostly) helmets. I will probably add a few old school metal helmets (like a crusader helmet).

I don't have an interest in making a helmet from scratch (I realize some assembly and work will come with most bought helmets).

So my question is what helmet/helmets do you think would be a good first helmet project to finish and paint?

I am thinking a Bawzprops Dredd helmet to start, but I am open to suggestions (I also want a animefan Boba helmet but they seem like something you paint after more experience).

Hopefully this made sense,

L~

The one that inspires you to do the best job you can. Don't worry about which one. Just pick one and do it! :) No matter which one you do, once you're on your 5th or 6th you will look back at that first helmet you thought you did an amazing job on and you will want to re-do it! The only way to win in this equation is through non-attachment to you're perceived result.

I would recommend something cheap and off-the-shelf, so you won't feel too bad if you make a mistake or two.

I've either built from scratch of painted practically all the helmets you mention and the easiest I found was the Dredd bucket.

Nice bright colors, easy lines, not full face and easy to weather if you choose that option.

I would advise if new to prop building, painting and weathering always pick something easier because difficult projects that require an experienced hand can kill your enthusiasm for the craft. The first Pep file I built was a OT TK bucket and it really ended up a bit of a mess and iI was so disappointed. I then took on the Dredd bucket and the results were really encouraging and it turned out great because it's an easier build that something like the OT Stormy.

Anyway good luck with what you choose.

Thanks for all of the thoughts, all of you pretty much confirmed what I was thinking.

I know I am not interested in actually building a helmet so no worries there. Dredd seems like the best option to start. (I wish I had known about the cheap Boba helmet they sold in Target awhile back -- D'oh! That would have been great for experimenting).

I am leaning toward not doing much weathering on the Dredd helmet. Maybe a little wear around the bottom where the collar would rub. But that is a thread for another day.

Thanks again,

L~
