Best casting decisions ever made in movies

Hell, Michael Biehn was in the running for the Terminator too. That would have drastically changed things

Don't worry, the best part is that the reason they ultimately didn't pursue OJ as The Terminator, is because he was considered to nice and likable by the public (based on previous film roles, and public appearances). They didn't think folks would accept him seriously as a cold blooded killer robot.

Oh the irony ! ; )

Right but like I said I'll still take it on the technicality that a self casting is still a casting lol. I mean there's writers who know better than to cast themselves for their character as much as they'd love to. With Stallone I don't know if it was a vanity choice or he really thought he was the best guy to play Rocky.
On the Rocky theme, Tony Burton was perfect as Duke.
For me, it is his performance that sells the fights. Rocky fight scenes are a million miles away from genuine ringcraft, but he gives such a sense of dedication to his guy in the ring that you do feel there is a real danger in there.
The scene in II where he warns Creed off the rematch is powerful AF. Also, in the first movie, it is his response to Apollo's reaction to Rocky on tv pounding meat that indicates Rocky has an actual chance.
