BenStreeper's Halo Reach Spartan Laser scratch build Post #11

With the store shutting down, and my free-time opening up exponentially I decided to go ahead and cheer myself up by getting back into the greatest hobby ever... Building stuff!!! So this week during the Liquidation of Xcon Gaming I have been pepping a Halo Reach E.O.D. helmet. First I want to thank the Modeler IroniumCostuming of the 405th for the amazing model. I did a new unfold on letter sized paper but other than that this file is great.

Here is the helmet 1/2 way through day 1

Here it is at the end of day 1. I wanted to see what it would look like with armor, so I slipped the 1/2 helmet onto my statue. Not bad....

And here it is at the end of day 2.

Hopefully I can get him to the resin/ fiberglass / bondo/ rondo stage soon. The last day we have to be up here at the mall is the 20th.

Here it is with the Vents

Re: Back in the Game, BenStreeper's Halo Reach EOD Build

more back in the game works from this week.

New ODST Rookie Helmet
Pepped/hardened by Timecon
Got some sanding done on this but it still has a long way to go

New Iron Man Helmet
Pepped/hardened with bondo work by Timecon
Did some detail work, and continue of bondo works

Spartan Laser
Got a Spartan laser pepped and hardened from a trade with SavvyTank of the 405th. Started cutting it up to make it modular and then decided with the amount of warping it had, and the excess amount of hot glue it would be easier and less costly to build it from scratch. So I printed out several 2d images of the new halo reach version and used my warped laser for scaling. I will post more pics of this as it progresses.

I love the work you do, but I was rather curious, what tools do you reccomend, not just use, but reccomend for the foam armor. As I'm seeking to start working with those materials and I've bought the foam. What other parts should I acquire?

Re: Back in the Game, BenStreeper's Halo Reach EOD Build and other projects

to start, just a sharp knife and some hot glue

"to start, just a sharp knife and some hot glue"
Check
and Check.

I think I've read of other things like a hot knife, and some other tools being used.
Also curious as to how you hide the seams.

Re: Back in the Game, BenStreeper's Halo Reach EOD Build and other projects

you can use a lot of items to "hide" the seams. Acrylic caulk works very well, or if you prefer to go the longer route you can "prime" the foam item with plasti-dip and then do bondo work on it

Re: Back in the Game, BenStreeper's Halo Reach EOD Build and other projects

Started basic woodwork on new "scratch" built splaser. Beginning with sizing and framing the front housing this is the basic frame for it. I plan to add detail later. Not bad for my first wood build ;p

Side by side scaling shots from the pep laser

Alright on to the new stuff. Today I got some time to hammer out the grip's base form. here are some shots of the finished base form with no details yet. I'll add detail and a video of how I made this later

Built the top Base form today, here are some shots of it inter-locking with the grip base form.

Also started on the back area, which I've decided will have an ammo clip in it ;p
