Bellatrix Lestrange - fabric help needed - post #10

I finished my Bellatrix costume in time for Dragon Con. Here's some of the details:

The dress is a textured light wool suiting. I used a stamp and free hand painting to do the silver swirl designs. All lacings are leather and I used very small black eyelets. Can't believe how hard it was to find black eyelets!

The corset was custom made and fitted for me by Lonewolf1183. This thing is a work of art!

The wig used to look about 3x bigger when I got it than it does now. I had to give it quite the hair cut. The gray streaks are dyed and sewn to the wig.

My wand is from the Noble Collection.

This was so much fun to wear! Probably my favorite costume that I brought with me this year at the Con. :)

You look great! :love It's beautifully done and you really fit the part so well. :D

YES - :thumbsup Great job on the costume and all the other "accessories" to complete the Bellatrix persona (boots, wig, wand).

My wife and I were there Saturday as Professors McGonagall and Snape and we're both disappointed that we didn't get a chance to see you in person. Maybe next year!

Next year you need to check out the Yule Ball on Sunday night. Its a little teeny bopper-ish for my tastes but you do get to see a wide array of Potter related costumes there. Some good...some not so good. :lol

Thanks to all for the compliments.

I've been working on upgrading this costume, including embroidering some of the swirls on the dress, etc. I'll post some new photos when I'm finished.

Now I've also been thinking now about doing her Malfoy Manor costume from DH: Part 1. The hold up is the sleeve fabric. I can't find anything close and maybe it isn't even fabric at all...maybe its leather? Anyone have an opinion on this?

It's definitely fabric. It just has a complex type of tucking to get that texture. Seamstress trick.

Take a look at this website for a brief intro to the different types of tucking that can be done: Pleats, Tucks & Gathers

If you want to learn how to sew that way, I recommend The Art of Manipulating Fabric, by Collette Wolff.

Thank you. I did a search for slashed tucks and it came up with the information from that book. However, the instructions and drawings show that Shark's Teeth tucks have visible rows of stitching above each row of "teeth". So that doesn't exactly work out, but it is close! Hmmmm....
