BB8 shperical costume

With very little advanced notice my kids/family have settled on a Star Wars theme for Halloween this year. We've got all the kids' and wife's costumes figured out, but I thought I would try to be a little silly and make a BB8 costume for myself.

The chief challenge is finding/making a rigid, hollow sphere to put my body in, something like this: bb8.jpg Of course there are a million ways to come at this challenge, but before I start busting my crank to figure out how to do it (google searches have been less than helpful), I figured I'd tap the collective genius of these boards. Usually someone else has a smarter/faster/better way of doing these sorts of things. So I'm soliciting your advice.

What's the best way to quickly get a rigid, hollow, body sized sphere that can be turned into a serviceable BB8 costume for my kids' halloween? I submit myself to your genius. Go.

for a cheap ball shape i would cover a yoga ball with a few layers of paper mache. Take flour and mix in some water so that the mix becomes like the consistency of soup, then take a news paper strips and dip your hand into the mix and plaster the paper strip onto the yoga ball. After a few layers you let it dry and when dried for a few day you just deflate the yoga ball and you have the hollow ball shape. You can then cover the ball with fabric dipped in hobby glue.
