Battletech Mechwarrior Outfit(Pic intensive)

Quick scratch build I did with stuff I already had laying around from previous projects. Started it on the 1st and finished it this afternoon. Maybe 12-14 hours in it.

So this is based on the old 3rd Succession War bucket helmets that were much more bulky than the Star League helmets or 4th War and later recovered tech helmets. Helmets are so variable in the art that I went with a custom that tried to stay thematically with the common bits.

For those folks unfamiliar with 'em here are the only references I had to work from that were pretty close (Original 80's publications).

And a close up of the scrawled kill markers.

Excellent! I love it! Really keeps the feel of the art. I always felt they were rather funky designs, but it actually looks kind of neat in 3 dimensions.

Thanks for the response!

Guess not a lot of other folks have heard of battletech though...

Just wanted to update that I've started on the rest of the costume. Got my base parts together. Will update as things come along.

Very cool. I'm a huge 90s Battletech fan (and Shadowrun for that matter) but i'm lost in the newer stuff they have out. Sadly tabletop RPGs are an aquired taste and battletech has taken some losses when it comes to players, that's probably why you haven't gotten that many responses.

Very well made scratch build, I can't believe what it's made from!

On a related note, any chance of getting a view of the gun in the artwork in the first picture (the blue helmet with "stand & deliver" on the side)? For some reason it looks familiar.

It's actually this gun, which was pretty prevalent in the early art. They still make them too. Just have to ship them in from Italy to get one...

And here's a pic from TRO 3026 with a side profile.

I knew it, I KNEW IT!!! I remember having some catalogs from FASA who also sold Battlemech and on the cover of one of the catalogs they had a gun. I like it so much at the time I recreated it in cardboard.

Years later I managed to get one of those Edison/Giicattoli guns and dimly remembered seeing it's design before, and you just confirmed it for me.
Thank you. :)

**edit**
Oh, forgot to mention you can buy these here in the U.S., I can post a link if you like.

Yes please! The $20 pricetag is great but I could definitely do without the $40 shipping across the pond.:love

This is one area where my google-fu has failed me.

Just making a small update. I'm moving in a couple weeks so progress is going to be slow or not at all for a little while.

Right now I have dressed up the buckles to look more futuristic, built the coolant flow control and housing and made the tube ports to attach to the vest. Hope you guys like it.

Also would love to see that link if you find it dropshipbob.

Just a small update. I was able to import a few of the Edison guns from germany and get the helmet molded.

Will get back to work on the rest of the suit in October.

Re: Battletech Mechwarrior Neurohelmet (Pic intensive)

Just one question. if the visor is painted black... How do you see out of it? Just wondering since I am planning on making my own.
:)

Visor is naturally black/dark green as it's a welding face shield. I just covered it in a clear red to give it some flavor. Perfectly easy to see out of.
