Re: Battlestar Galactica build - studio scale

Port side landing bay completed.
Lots of time spent researching the missing and incorrect parts.

Thank the maker for HD video. Freeze framing the DVD of the show reveals lots of before unseen detail in the bay trench.

Looks Awesome, Thanks for posting the update.

I always get excited when I see this thread bumped back to the top.

Absolutely stunning build!. I could stare all day at these pics, there's just soooo much detail to take in.
Stu :eek

Re: Battlestar Galactica build - studio scale

I finished up the starboard bay interior & lighting.
I had initially built a forced perspective interior that looked cool when viewed in person but scrapped that because it didn't really resemble what you see in the studio model.
The new bay insert looks much better and was way easier to build.

A short film of the landing lights. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPqU0-kMkvM

Fiber optics running lights lit from the flasher circuit board located in the ships main body. The fibers and power leads for the LED's run up inside the rear arm.

Took me a while to notice what had been added to the back of the lighting circuit

Re: Battlestar Galactica build - studio scale

Hey, I have a question.

Knowing the extremely difficult time that you've had finding the millions (LOL) of little parts for the outer detailing, did you by chance drop them in rubber so as to make any additional attempts at this project easier?

I used mostly original parts on this build, only making resin copies of parts from the most rare of kits.
If I were to build another, I'd pretty much have to buy most of the doner kits again.

Re: Battlestar Galactica build - studio scale

That is just INCREDIBLE! Fantastic work to be proud of.

Re: Battlestar Galactica build - studio scale

if my Battlestar comes out half as good as your Im going to be stoked. Just looks better & better everytime I go through this thread. Thanks Jim

Re: Battlestar Galactica build - studio scale

Wow, I remember drooling in disbelief over the first one you built, Jim. Can't imagine what it would be like to pull off such a magnum opus/opus magnum a second time. Is it easier the second time round due to the knowledge gained from the first or more difficult in the sense that you're running the same marathon a second time? Are there a lot of learnings still to be had this time round?

Re: Battlestar Galactica build - studio scale

My goodness. I cant get over the attention to detail. What a beautiful thing. I cant wait to see it done. Nice job!
