Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Never read any of the comics, but I was under the impression that Batman didn't like Superman because he is 'untouchable' in a sense and that he's only super because he is in earth. And that Superman didn't like Batman because he thought Bruce solved problems with force first, probably because he's been at it so long he's just over being a nice guy about crime.

In my best Obi-Wan voice: "That's Frank Miller talking."

I would've never considered Joaquin Phoenix; but if you look at some comic pics of Luthor, there is a strong resemblance (I think it's the eyebrows). I thought Cranston was a lock - his acting on Breaking Bad just made him such a force that it was hard to look past him.

Goyer off this project is good news. I liked Argo, but it's not a superhero/comic book movie that's going to have a ton of meddling by the studio - hope this guy can pull it off. I'm guessing Affleck had a lot of pull in this move and after hearing him speak of Daredevil recently, I think Ben's not going to be afraid to push his weight around to make sure this is a great movie.

Goyer isn't off the movie, he's written the screenplay. The new guy is just polishing it up while foyer works to create the DC universe.

Depends on which report you read and/or believe. Goyer reportedly wrote the screenplay, Terrio is reportedly writing a draft/screenplay. Most stories are saying Goyer is being replaced;

Will have to wait and see what the final credit is.

Both Terrio and Affleck have on Oscars for their screenplay work - I hope that's a good sign.

I really hope this isn't true. I like him, He's done some cool work, but I was really hoping for someone a little older. Really had my hopes set on Cranston.

So far this movie sounds like a complete mess.
Phoenix is 39 years old; Cranston is 57 - so yeah, Cranston is considerably older. Phoenix is has three Oscar noms under his belt, so he's no slouch - Cranston, too has shown that he can act with his incredible performance on Breaking Bad. Cranston was also in Argo (and we've already got two Argo alums on board), so maybe Cranston might still pop up.

The Joaquin Phoenix as Luthor idea struck me as odd at first. But, once I looked at his face I could see a lot of the Luthor I saw in the comics - the facial make up is very similar. Obviously, the man can act.

The word on Cranston - who is 57 and may want some semblance of a retirement soon - is that he wanted to do some theater work and didn't want to commit to a movie series at this time. Just because the man was bald in Breaking Bad doesn't necessarily imply he should be Luthor (but, yeah... it is a very appealing idea).

With the addition of Terrio, the casting Affleck and if they do cast Phoenix (or even Cranston) SvB already sounds world's better than MoS.

Whenever I watch Phoenix all I'm watching is that scar on his lip... it's so utterly distracting in ever movie he's in.
IMHO Oscar noms doesn't necessarily speak volumes of their acting chops. Take Forest Whitaker for example. Oscar winner among other awards... I think he's painful to watch. Jack Nicholson... while I love watching him, he's pretty much Jack Nicholson in everything he's in.
Not taking anything away from Phoenix, but I don't consider the Oscar as an infallible gage of talent...
Not saying Cranston is the be all end all either. I didn't think he was anything special in Total Recall and he's mostly been in TV shows from what I can tell. He's simply my pick until someone throws out a name that makes me say "Holy crap.... HIM!!!". Hell, I'd probably take a shaved head Clancy Brown just because I've pretty much accepted his voice as Luthor.

It's not all about you - you can't stop watching the scar, you think Forest Whitaker, Jack Nicholson, etc. :D

In all seriousness, the movies are a personal experience, so of course, it's all about how we view them. Lotsa folks loved Nolan's Batman films, I hated them. Some folks don't like the Affleck casting because they can't see past it being Ben Affleck instead of an actor playing a part (again, I think it's the best casting I can think of in recent history); similarly you can't over look Phoenix's scar (which is a remnant of a cleft lip) - I look past it (in fact, while I do recall the scar, I can't remember the last time I actively noticed it), just as I might not pay attention (or at least try not to) to someone's disfigurement in real life.

Yes, the Oscar is largely a popularity contest. But, let's not completely write it off - there is (usually) a great deal of talent involved in winning one.

Yeah, I'm very shallow and superficial that way. ;)
Fortunately for the movie loving audience I have yet to pursue a career as a casting director.
There is talent out there, no doubt about it. Some get recognized for it. Some get snubbed every year.

How about this for a new Batmobile if they decide to depart from the Tumbler tank style?

I thought Spacey was way too over the top... basically being Spacey.
I'm also sick of the "really smart crook version. I like the corportate genius Luthor more.
