What's the best type of make up to get the blacked out eye look from a bat mask? I've tried SNAZZOO (sp) applied with a damp sponge, but doesn't quite look right, yet. Have to know by Saturday for a party. Cheers

Alot of people use Ben Nye and set it with powder so it doesn't run... or the stuff football and baseball players use.

I use black eyeliner for the base of the lashes and make-up grade black liquid latex for the rest.

You have to be very careful not to get it in your eyes or eyelashes, but the end result looks great.

Ben Nye is great. It's what I used. It's pretty cheap too if you're just getting one color.

If you're anywhere near Canoga Park try Reel Creations. It's an alcohol based makeup so be careful. Use a sealer to set it and it'll last all nite. I use it for my Darth Maul and it'll last all day, heck I tested it once and the makeup stayed on for 3 full 24 hour days. Sucks to take off around the eyes so expect to look like Emo for a few days after you remove it.

Ben nye works in a pich to like Darius mentioned. Try using a brush instead of a sponge nearest the eye lash if you go that route. Instead of applying it all at once do it in layers. Apply a lite coat let set apply again and continue doing so til you get the desired effect. I noticed if you apply in layers it comes off in layers and lasts much longer. Did you use a latex makeup sponge? You can get a big bag fairly cheap at Target in the makeup section.

Feel free to PM me. I'm no professional but I do tend to don makeup quite often with alot of my costumes.

I use the camo compact from wal-mart's hunting section. Takes baby oil to really get the stuff off though. Never had a problem with it.

Although the application time is longer for it, there are 2 reasons why I like to use the liquid latex.

1 - the color/texture/finish matches the cowl perfectly
2 - it easily peels right off when you're done

Apply the eye liner first.
Have someone else apply the latex for you (it's much easier and they can do both eyes more quickly than you alone).
You have to keep your eyes closed until it's dry.
Use the no heat setting of a hair-dryer or stand in front of a fan to quicken the drying process.

I"m using a tube of cheapo cream makeup from WalMart. $3, might be able to still find some in the Halloween leftover aisle. There are many better solutions, but this stuff comes off easy. I was using grease style, but I stayed emo for 24 hours after trying to scrub it off.

I came in here to post Ben Nye, but it looks like half a dozen people already beat me to it. I prefer the Aqua line of Ben Nye products. It's a hard cake that you actiivate with a damp sponge and dab (never wipe) onto the skin. It dries into a sweat resistant matte finish, and allows the pores to breathe. And of course I'd line my eyes with liquid eyeliner first.

If you're still worried about the makeup running away (which it shouldn't, but what do I know, you could sweat like a pig) you can buy a spray on fixative that seals the makeup and pores. I forget who makes it, and it's a b***h to get off, but it works ridiculously well.

Go with the Ben Nye. For that small an area, I don't see the point in breaking your back or your wallet on reel creations, or going through the trouble of the latex. No offense guys. It's just like going around your butt to get to your elbow.

Also, invest in a decent eyeliner (or guyliner as I like to call it). Some people prefer liquid, some (like myself) prefer a nice quality pencil. I find that anything cheaper than maybelinne is like trying to use a crayola crayon on your face.
