Bathroom Silicon Mould - Where did I go wrong

try searching for 5kg 200g kit Shore A28 Fast Curing.

Hi.
Try the search above.. it will take you straight to the seller. :thumbsup

I Brought this silicone after using the Polycraft GP-3481
it was expensive and took age's to setup.
So this stuff makes molding fast and easy.

Thanks

hi Naptha in the uk is very easy to get virtualy anywhere, its called low odour white spirit, also lighter fuel is the same thing. also for silicone tirantis are way overpriced for the stuff they sell, go directly to mouldlife speak to them. for a good low cost tin based i would check out the supersil range, a kilo kit is about 18 quid. also tinsil spray 25 is a great all round tin based system. as for plat cures they d the full range of polytek prodcts including platsil gel 10 and 00. top company , lovely to deal with and cracking prices

I'm not sure where you get 'way over priced'... while this might be true of some stuff, with silicone there is very little difference. £107.66 including delivery for 5.5kg of Tinsil 7020 as apposed to £102.38 for 5.25kg of T20 at Tiranti. Mouldlife is cheaper for the silicone and you get .25kg more but £4 more for the shipping.

A 1.1 kg kit is £36 at Mouldlife including shipping... again Tiranti is more expensive for the silicone and there is a little less at 1.05kg but the shipping is cheaper so it comes out at £30.46.

I used T20 to cast my Terminator bust and, as I said, it was very good and cheaper than the ACC Silicone's MM922 that I used for the T2 bust.

Hi.
White spirit may have Naptha in it but is not 100% naphtha it will leave an oily residue with silicone and is used to thin oil based paints...

Example: Pure orange juice is not virtually Robinson Orange juice ..:darnkids

lighter fluid is A blend of Petroleum but it has anti rust chemicals and anti odor chemicals depending on the brand.

Naphtha: is a feedstock destined either for the petrochemical industry (e.g. ethylene manufacture or aromatics production) or for gasoline production by reforming or isomerisation within the refinery. Naphtha comprises material that distils between 30°C and 210°C.

White spirit: and SBP are refined distillate intermediates with a distillation in the naphtha/kerosene range. White spirit has a flash point above 30°C and a distillation range of 135°C to 200°C. Industrial spirit (SBP) comprises light oils distilling between 30°C and 200°C, with a temperature difference between 5 per cent volume and 90 per cent volume distillation points, including losses, of not more than 60°C. In other words, SBP is a light oil of narrower cut than motor spirit. There are seven or eight grades of industrial spirit, depending on the position of the cut in the distillation range defined above.

I do like Mouldlife supplies and I would highly recommend them.

I Only found one trade supplier of pure naphtha online but I prefer to use Silicone Fluid to airbrush.

I agree.

The main problem I had with Mouldlife is they charge vat on delivery cost. This Put's the price up just above some other suppliers
I can save £9 just ordering the same Mouldlife 2kg Gel-10 from another Supplier..:wacko

I'm getting confused...

You guys are talking about £107+ for 5kg of "moldlife" mould rubber, but searching "RTV Silicone Moulding Rubber 5kg 200g kit Shore A28 Fast Curing" gives me £50 + £8 shipping...
Is it vastly different product?

Searching where? Google? 50 quid is a good price, but I wouldn't want to risk my sculpture on it, if you know what I mean.

RTV Silicone Moulding Rubber 5kg 200g kit Shore A28 Fast Curing | eBay

Hi.
I use the 5kg Shore A28 Silicone all the Time and its great Stuff.. Never had any issue's with it.
if you ask the seller he can also supply you with a clear catalyst, So you can tint the silicone to your own preference.

I Will always use this Silicone for Mold Making Only, Pour mould's work Excellent and you get minimal Air bubble's
if you Use the High Pour method, it also cured's Pretty Strong.

There are many Different Mold Making Silicone's out there and they all have there special characteristic's but
for General molding this is A Perfect Silicone and it's cheap.

I'm always a bit wary of cheaper materials, but I think I may have to try it when it comes with a working recommendation.

Hi there,
I source my RTV from Creative Resources Distribution Limited. I was put on to SILICONE RUBBER - Allscot Ltd.I hope this helps :)

I have used Creative Resources when I purchased 150lb's of Klean klay, they are very helpful and a good Supplier..
But The Silicone they Supply has a long Working Time and De-Mould time of 20-24hrs.
This may be Good for a pour Mould, but for Brush-on Molding its No good, as it will keep Running off your Sculpture.
also if your Doing a large Pour Mould it will be Expensive..

The 5-15 mins working time 5kg £50 RTV Silicone make's it a great Product to use, using 2% Catalyst it's also Great for Pour Molding.
