Batgirl Begins....Torso now complete. 8/26

I'm truly humbled by all the kind comments. You guys really make it easy for us to put ourselves out there. I really cant thank you all enough for the words of encouragement and feedback.

I took a bit of a risk doing this costume 'this' way but I think in the end now it's all really coming together.
Here's a peek at the chest logo area...the 'focal' point of the costume....:)
The body cast had to be a generic one but it's a very close match to the young lady's body size who'll be wearing this.

All silicone..Sorry if the pics are too big but I wanted the skin detail to show. The white dots are just dust and crumbs from a make up sponge. I didnt wipe this all down before taking these pics.

And here's a quick shot of the not completely trimmed cowl. Just propped up on what was left of the torso sculpt after I demolded it.

I hope you guys like it now that you can really see how it's all going to look in the end.
Belt and boot tops left.

That is really amazing looking. Sorry if it was already asked but how will she get into it. Do you do a zipper in the back?

lol what a time to ask THAT one lol looks good - looks like it's actually over the skin and not just on top of it. what did you use to make the skin tone?

Hokey smokes, dude.

If I hadn't been privy to this thread, I would've SWORN that I was looking at a person's skin in those shots (especially ^THIS^ one).

You just blew my mind.

I keep looking at it and shakin' my head... Unreal. Hard to believe that's not real skin. Top notch, David. :thumbsup

David, my expectations for this project have been high since I saw your first photos.

With your most recent pics, you've exceeded my expections. That really does look like leather. And the flesh effect is terrific. I don't doubt that you've taken the model's own skintones into account and will match them so that the effect is seamless.

Truly, this is inspired work. Congratulations. :thumbsup

Hmm, no real cleavage?? A beautiful woman has nothing to hide :( if you ask me, especially with these curves...

I suppose that, if there's one thing most admiring males might change about this amazing costume, it would be to have the bat insignia actually cut out and an expanse of authentic bat-cleavage on display. Bam. Zowie. Hey, I like cleavage as much as the next guy. :love

I'm guessing, though, that the model herself must have requested faux-cleavage, for whatever reason. Perhaps it's to eliminate the continual need to wipe sweat off of her exposed skin, which might interfere not only with the effect of the costume but also with her enjoyment of the event. In any case, I think David's done a brilliant job of meeting this request while staying true to the source artwork. I, for one, am very impressed.

The only question I have regarding the paintjob for the 'cleavage' is does it match her actual skintone? If it does, no big deal, but if it's very different it's just going to seem 'off.' But other than that, looks great.

Thanks everyone... I'm grateful for the feedback. :thumbsup

I did my best to match it to her natural chest colors based on images I was sent over the net. I think it's close but considering that the only 'real' skin to show through will be here face area from the eyes down....I think the skin tone issue should be cool.

Why a silicone chest skin instead of her using her own? Good question...lots of answers...:) It's obviously more work to make a fake chest area like that but easier to engineer 'fit' wise and for her to wear. With that area all cut out you'd have to incorporate some kind of support system...and then you start getting into a bunch of 'real custom' fitting problems. This is silicone...not latex. Latex is rigid so it would easily hold it's shape if cast sturdy enough. In this case the silicone is real flexible...just like leather would be.

Also...and most importantly...she requested it be done this way. B) Considering the croud at Dragon Con I really cant say I blame her..... :D :p

That right there sums up why I would not go for real skin either, if I were her. Hell, look at us here like a bunch of drooling maniacs.
