Bane Build

Hey dme, I got my GCFX mask today and it's great, but a bit rough to wear. It also has some gaps around the ears. I noticed you have some foam around your ears and it seems to tighten the mask on your face as well. What foam did you use and how did you attach it.?

It was actually some leftover foam from a window air conditioner. lol. I used industrial Velcro with adhesive backing. It works.

Sounds like an interesting way to attach the armor-plates.. So basically you cut out the shape of the plates on the vest and sewed on a piece of extra fabric to create a little 'curb' to put the plates in?

I'm still thinking on how to do them on the vest I'm currently making, I'm really glad for feedback like this :).

Edit: What I wrote probably made no sense.. Sorry, long day of pattern tweaking and test stitching..

Thanks for the response, dme. Do you have any other tips to improve on the GCFX mask?

Are you painting it yourself?

I'm still trying to figure out if there's a way to remedy the sides being too far away from my head. If I can't think of a way, it's not a huge deal... but I would definitely like it to be snug.

The only things left is the inner vest (which is just a normal vest, so it shouldn't be difficult) and a belt buckle. The one in the pics is just a placeholder made out of cardboard.

Yeah,I'm painting it. What paint did you use?

I'm also going to try replacing some of the piping for real metal tubes, as well as add bits here and there such as metal washers on top of that hinge mechanism behind the jaw bones.

I used acrylic paint. That may not be the best in terms of durability, but it has been good so far. If you work with metallic colors and mix them well it can look pretty realistic. I ended up trying to make the front too bright and I should probably go and tone it down a bit. It all depends on what picture of Bane you're looking at. Haha. I think replacing pieces with real parts would be cool if you can pull it off well. If you do, be sure to put up pics.

Great build thread! one of the best banes of all time keep it up! I'm doing a foam build for my friend and this keeps me motivated.

Awesome work on vest and gauntlet...what pattern did u use for it? I ended up making one using a wrist support piece but would like to make something more movie accurate..

You could use an old shirt or piece of scrap material to make a pattern. Just cut out a strip that is wide enough to cover your palm up to wherever you want the thing to stop up your forearm; long enough to wrap around twice. Just make marks where your thumb should be and everything. Make necessary cuts to get yourself a pattern for the leather.

Got the belt finished. That should about wrap this build up. I'll try to get a hold of a photographer to get some good pics of me. Let me know what you think.

Wow... Every half decent halloween contest/party around here requires that I be 21 to enter. They decided not to tell that little detail until recently... after I got done with the costume. :(
