What to do when you're deployed in the Arabian Sea for seven months? Build models of course! While I've brought larger kits in the past, I've recently discovered Bandai's Mecha Colle/ Vehicle Model kits; they're about ten to twenty dollars (CAD), and being Bandai they're lousy with detail! I can bring twenty of them with me and they take up hardly any room!
This is Bandai's Vehicle Model (supposedly 1:350) of the ESB Millennium Falcon. They're released ANH, ESB, TFA, and TROS versions, all with subtle differences. I won't go into details about the differences, there are already articles about them online.
Apart from the lighting, the kit is more or less OOB, I even used the Vinyl stickers! The only kit piece I didn't use was the exhaust grille, which I replaced with a zip tie. The engine light is a 26mm COB LED, and the rest of the lights are 3mm, one for white landing lights, one for the red lights and one for the cockpit. To open the cockpit I drilled out the perimeter of the windows with a .30mm drill, then used a fresh Exacto blade to cut our the excess. Only stabbed myself once!
The base is a piece I 3D printed before I set to sea, and the sides are just sheet styrene and assorted bits and bobs for interest.
