As the title suggests...this is a one day build of my Bandai Tie Striker... I went with the same color I used on my original Tie Fighters.

I'll have to remember that. Looks very close to Haze Grey, but I hate using rattle cans and Tamiya didn't make a bottle version of it

Yeah, on my Tie Fighters and Tie Advanced X1 I used XF-82 and XF-18, but I did not have any XF-82 on hand. Plenty of medium blue and other grays, so I just mixed until I matched the color of my Tie Fighter (pictured in the OP).

I'd love to pick up all of Guy Cowen's Archive X paints, but they are soo expensive. And they're enamels... But I'm so use to using Tamiya acrylics that I might have to get use to a new paint type. Or maybe not.. Either, the cost is a turn off at this point. Besides, I think I have a good eye for matching the colors of the studio models.

I love Tamiya paints and they are readily available at a store near me. I have also used Vallejo as well, but I find Tamiya a little better

I prefer acrylics mainly because they don't need as many harsh chemicals for thinners. It is also why I switched to water mixable oils

The Striker is a great kit for a one day build. It took me two because I lost one of the wing gun tips to the dimensional portal living in my carpet. I generally like my standard TIEs to have a whiter/gray ANH look, but to me the Striker looks great a little bluer. Nice build!

I wish I had a local hobby shop that carried Tamiya paints... I've been very happy with Tamiya acrylics and you're right, the thinner is easy and no real harsh chemicals. I use my own mixture to thin the acrylics... Mainly water, isopropyl alcohol, a small amount of retarder, and an acrylic flow improver.

Actually all the Ties make great one day builds. Or technically two for me since I have to paint the interior even though it will never be seen

Although I do have an assembly line of Ties all waiting to be painted. I wanted them to be the same color since I would be mixing it instead of using one color out of the bottle so I figured I would paint them all at the same time. I am just waiting to pick up the Interceptor

This is a Tie Fighter I did using the same colors as my Tie Striker. In bright light, it looks 'grayer' and very similar to the ANH versions. If you look at reference photos of the studio models, they do look very blue. It was the lighting used during filming which gave them the grayer appearance. I mean, that's what I think I remember reading... I could be wrong, though, as I am now over 40 o_O

I need Bandai's Interceptor, too... Might have to order it...lol

In ANH, every ship looked uniformly light gray due to the lighting and optical compositing. Even the Falcon often looks like a mush of gray browns. But, I kinda like that on-screen look when it comes to the TIEs. I remember seeing TESB in the theaters are thinking the TIEs looked wrong because they were too blue. It's all personal preference. But I think ILM got the perfect balance between gray and blue with the Strikers. Not too monochromatic, not too blue.

They do look good there... A perfect balance, as you said...

What is this one?:

I may have to mod a Stiker into that...lol
