Bandai 1/144 Millennium Falcon GROUP build awakens! OPEN TO EVERYONE! :)

They will never understand the pain...man if I'd known!so it turns out; I'm making an Aer Lingus version of the Falcon. This grey is a mad blue green! does it always take this long to cut and shape masking tape? haha!
i can see it coming together though. crazy colours though they may be..

Peeling them off and seeing nice clean lines along the details has become mine:) few tiny little mistakes here and there but the toothpicking of the masking tape into the details and grooves seems to be working :)

Hurrah! My dad has found my airbrush so I will be de-gunking it and trying it out on the Falcon soon. Not just yet though. I have a few other going concerns at the mo outside model-making and I want to get my Silent Running drone a bit further. The Falcon is such an enjoyable build I don't mind it taking ages.I have the motivation to pick it up and put it down again. Others I just want to blast through the boring bits. Requiring very little glue helps though - the fumes from poly cement annoy me after a while, even sat next to an open window.

They're good fun..i'm battling with mine trying to 'tune' it..screw bits at both ends seem to affect needles dispersal of the paint..dont think ill be using it for detailing on this build if i cant figure it out. They are a great asset though.

It can take a while to get it working the way you want when you start out.

The ajustment at the back black part is to set the maximum travel of the push trigger. if you want a small spray, you have to hold the airbrush closer to your work as less paint will come out when you only pull the trigger back slightly. you can hold it on areas for longer tho. hope that made sense lol

That links to the 32" model that is completely different in shape, details & paint scheme to TFA Falcon,....

the best references would be the Fathead images & stills from the film,...

.check out my thread,...I post every new released image there for reference

If you want REAL images of the studio model,....have a look at the BIG 5 foot model which TFA Falcon is based on...

....so,...just to reiterate,.....DON'T use reference pics of the 32" stunt model used in ESB & ROTJ as it bears no resemblance to the Falcon that is used by ILM now

Thanks lads! that's helpful, and a bit connfusing too..same panels on the same ship, and in different shots some of them are different greys etc :)
everyone's Falcon is their own mongrel version I guess:) mine definitely will be..

My reds have just gone on..vallejo fire red..(it's darker than it sounds)..yellow next..is it a mustard or an ochre though?

This little model looks good and these builds are really incredible.
I haven't built any models for MANY years but I'm considering picking one up.
Does anyone know if any of the die cast or micro machines TFA Tie fighters are close in scale with the Bandai falcon?

Looks great TheBeans!! Your love new are so clear and crisp!! What did you use for your battle damage?? I planned to do that last just by heating a glue gun tip up. It's small and circular and would leave faithful markings I think?

this is probanly a good FYI maybe even important one for others if they're using Vallejo Model air paints, but as you can see above on my Falcon I was unhappy with the lighter 'grey' panels as they came out clearly more a green shade than a grey as they're meant to be and as the bottle said it was.

So I emailed Vallejo just explaining my disappointment with the misleading shade v description. They replied and apologised for the mistake and asked if there was anything I needed to replace it. Really helpful. I'm still left with a really wrong looking Falcon but thankfully the darker blue has similar tones so I can work it and balance it out.

They replied with this, which could be important

Blue now'

Thanks dimejinky, i'm using the decals for the panels but before i made this decision i first checked that all the decals went well with the main hull colour which is a custom humbrol mix of grey 28 and white with a couple of drops of a light cream colour, using humbrol decalfix is an absolute must as they will just not sit correctly when not used, bad luck by the way with the Valejo colour it's not that bad, keep going your doing a good job, but take your time iv'e been working on my falcon for one month so far doing bit by bit letting thing dry and taking time planning the next step carefully.Good luck with the rest of it!. Iused a soldering iron for the hull damage(delicate work, i guess the same could be done by heating up a pointed metal object.

Nice painting progress, thebeans! Did your underside cannons bend? Be very careful when straigtening them out or they might snap in two.

Did I hear somewhere that Tamiya is discontinuing as-20?

Anyway, I just bought the last two cans from the hobby shop
