Bandai 1/144 Millennium Falcon GROUP build awakens! OPEN TO EVERYONE! :)

Hello all

My Badai Falcon arrived yesterday...had to pick it up from customs and had to pay 6.72EUR VAT!
Anyway...today I had to start it. It a fantastic kit, the detailing I think is even finer (in scale) then on the big Hasbro that I have hanging on the wall. If now Bandai makes a 1/72 or...we can wish...a 1/48 scale one...
So off to a good start. First things first, the little glitches that others have pointed out already had to be dealt with. A fresh No11 blade and off to work...

Next will be the cockpit and the lighting planing. Also a order at Shapeways is planned for tomorrow...I am still debating which antenna to get! The round one would sort of nail me down to an authentic repro where as with the square one I could do a "what if" episode VIII and be fine until Dec.17 ;-) I guess I will order both antennas and decide later. My falcon will definitely have glas windows since I do not plan on making a movie with it...as I said "what if " I kind of like best. I also have two F-Toys Y-wings as an escort for it. PE grills are on order from the Czech Republic. Rear engine parts I still have to look at...not sure what to use here yet.

cheers
Uwe

made a balls of my red flashes..the lid said it was a dark dirty red. goggled the number and it said insignia red..painted it on and it might as well be ferrari red..

see can you access my millennium falcon reference sheets I made up of all the iconic sections of the falcon, easier for scratch building and to some extent painting, majority of images are from RPF shared images just combined for ease of use .
most detailed are from Gorts 5 foot I'd thread , check it out

Thanks dude, thats got some good pics for the other pits. the best photo i can find is this:

It is ok but doesnt give you the best idea of what is in the pit.It does seem like there may be a tank engine deck in there.

If anyone can get a better pic or info i would be most greatful :)

because it's so benign compared to other pits , and next to iconic pieces like cockpit , entex and mclaren pieces I don't think it gets photographed as thoroughly, here's one

Morning all...

Just wanted to order my antennas from Shapeways...only to find out that their prices given on their page are net! This nasty US habit is entering Europe more and more lately...
So on top of the already ridicolously high prices they want to charge an additional 19% tax on top! The two antennas incl. VAT and shipping within Europe would have been just as much as what I paid for the kit coming from Japan...This tells me that 3D printing, unless you are able to do it yourself, is not (yet) an hobby fitting way for aftermarket parts.

cheers

I will only order from shapeways if there is free shipping. very pricey place. and i think model building should be somthing that is afordable

...so after 45min of work which included some for first aid on one of my fingers I got an antenna that I like. Without glasses I can hardly see the details, with glasses it's ok and only under my magnifing device I use for building small stuff I can see my sloppy workmanship ;-)

This one must be an earlier build,...it doesnt look as accurate

I saw that one years ago. I could never figure out why that guy went to THAT much trouble to not make it studio accurate. At that point, what's the difference between 500 hours and 600 hours.

Especially if you're just gonna do another one

Painted the red flashes top side and realised it wasnt only too bright, it was enamel so dried like a bright ferrari red which i hated & decided to try lift it and painted a caustic soda mix on it, then left it alone for a minute only to come back and find the dog had knocked the tub of the mix over it...i was doing it outside cos the fumes..paint all just melted off..dunno what to do..

was thinking i could just make another mix and let it strip all the paint off entirely and start again but dunno if that would work or affect the plastic

Stroof sorry to hear that dude. My sister had a pitbull that did all manner of things to destroy my stuff lol, Its difficult to stay mad at them tho haha

Give the model a good scrub in some reasonably hot soapy water with a clean toothbrush, let it dry, then re apply the top coat, unless you want to re prime it. I never use enamels full stop. i hate the stuff. it never seems to agree with acrylic paint from what iv seen. And the finish is a bit overkill for models.

You could just go with the decals for the colour parts, instead of buying more paint.

Clean the model then sleep on it. Iv had a few incidents that made me want to destroy a model kit. Its all part of, dare i say it, the fun....

Thanks Roboted &VFH...im gonna have to somehow get all the paint off and start from scratch..was thinking i could just paint over it but theres too much damage..better to start fresh and have at it again..

the primer was just acrylic too but doesnt seem to have been affected much...would a bath in some white spirits lift that?
