yea there's a difference between a "homage" and "Screen Accurate" or "SA" as its known around here

I'm creating my own copy of the "Ark Diary" from Raiders the first ones a prototype so is in an A5 notebook instead of the SA sized book this is for my own collection so not so important to get it 100% - 87.935% will do but the next one I do will be 100% or as near as I can get it as the contents are almost all fan made and will replace the original one I do - I do this all the time plus it allows you to add your own personal touch to a prop and you also feel its more your work as well.

bottom line is make the prop the way you want it - stay as close to the "real Deal" as possible obviously but put your own mark on it, if its never going to be sold or exhibited go for it, otherwise you have your work cut out as it can take years to get one prop finished to SA standard - for example I was lucky enough to have one of the original Gremlins from the movie "gizmo" and it took me 6 years to get the box that he was in done. so if its for your own collection and as long as your happy with it make it your own and use what you have.

Cool. I guess I'll try by getting some water slide decals. What do you think the size of the original "Plutonium Handle With Care" size was?

Based on the Blu ray screencaps, the word "Plutonium" is about 4 inches wide, the same approximate size as the 4" radioactive labels. (Might be about 3 1/2" - 3 3/4") The "Plutonium Handle with Care" label is only seen on the case in Doc's lab, not in the Twin Pines mall scene.

"Marty's Wallet" Paper Props & Photos

As I previously mentioned I have been through every page in this thread. I liked rediscovering such paper props as what could have been in Marty's wallet.

Sometime in the 2000s when I originally had most or all those files saved (then somehow lost after 2009) from a thread on another forum I knew it would be the place to show off an "undiscovered" (ok maybe not, more like rarely seen in general) picture from Back To The Future. This pic could have fit right in with Marty's wallet, at least when Eric Stoltz was Marty.

The original "behind the scenes" or made for production photo picture was of Eric Stoltz and Claudia Wells cuddling I guess in a nature like setting. Maybe in a "mirror universe" (Star Trek fan here too) Marty and Jennifer finally got to the lake with those sleeping bags. :love :lol

Anyhow the original picture use to be at bttf.com, (Where I asked today about it) during a redesign (sometime before 2009) the picture and others weren't re-uploaded and shared in photos section of the site.

Recently while getting reorganized with the BTTF paper props I rememebred this photo and went searching for it. I came across a smaller version (I think) of it. Part of the problem is someone replaced Eric Stoltz's head with Michael J Fox's. For those who have seen the original, can tell "photoshoppery," and obviously see that Marty isn't wearing his red/orange "puff" vest, you know this isn't the original. I guess the person who Photoshopped it felt it made sense to do that. Which i get, I wish the size I found on-line was original scale. Maybe if the size was altered, it was made to fit in a 1980s style velcro wallet.

If anyone has the original pic, can you post it? Below is the small (maybe) altered pic.

While searching for Marty and Jennifer pictures :wacko I found this probably screen capped pic that may have been altered. Either that or the cap came from before the trilogy was restored for it's anniversary and blu-ray. I thought some might like to see it and maybe use it for their displays or scale it down (if needed) to put in a Marty "prop" wallet.

Yes, it's Eric Stoltz on that photo. But his girlfriend is not Claudia Wells, it's actress Melora Hardin. She was originally cast as Jennifer Parker.

Yes, I knew Melora Hardin was originally cast as Jennifer. First time I heard that was when Bob Gale talked about it on one of the BTTF DVD commentaries. Really, is that her in that pic? I always thought/assumed it was Claudia Wells. May have learned something new. :cool

Do you know if their is copy without the bttf.com watermark? More then likely when I first had this photo it was watermarked. I don't remember.

Yes, it's really Melora Hardin on that photo. Claudia Wells was cast only after Eric Stoltz was replaced by Michael J. Fox. Hardin was too tall for Fox, so they had needed another, smaller actress.

I just know the one with the watermark. But it was no problem to remove it.

Roland: Thanks for the information about the character of Jennifer. It's cool to learn something new.

I figured removing the watermark wouldn't be a problem for you. The bigger photo might look good as part of a larger BTTF display. Just not in Marty's room where some version of him would have some explaining to do with some version of Jennifer.

If they place a watermark there's always a reason, but you certainly have the permission of the original photographer to publish the picture. ^^

The same "permission" which I have for the images that I used for all my other paper props: NONE! If we all had to ask for permission from the original artists, before we post paper props, this thread would still be on page 1.

I don't know what happened and of what precisely you are being accused, but you should know: almost everything that we do here in the RPF is a copyright infringement. Much more important is the "honour amongst thieves". So the common assumption is: You can make replicas if you use the original prop for it, but if you use another one's replica for making your replica, it's recasting. It's a simple rule.
