Back to the Future

Excellent i had a quick play with it using DB537 as a base to work from i have it in Illistrator if any ones it or can improve on it as im really not that good at these things

P.m. if you want it

Kid

The Lou's Cafe header is actually fine as I originally posted it.
I used photos and screencaps of original stationery from the
movie as reference, and it already has the correct fonts. :cool

I was only having difficulty with the handwritten text from Marty, because the version found online is not taken from the same copy as seen in the movie.

Hi DB i though yours was perfect but im trying to learn a bit more about making these sorts of things and i just though i would have a a try based on your work, sorry if you thought i was trying to improve or better your work cos its amazing, and just wondered if any one wanted what i have done.

Honestly not trying to do anyharm just learning from people better than my self.

im sure you all ready have this image but this is on screen used if its any help as references

It's ok. :thumbsup
Really they only show the top portion of the letter on screen for a couple of seconds at the end in 1985. I just searched around a lot for images of original copies of the stationery made for the film, and used HD screen caps also for reference.

There are a couple of really good websites now for identifying specific fonts. You normally won't find Arial font used on any movie props from the 1980s. :cool

I would suggest to anyone interested in making paper props to get a copy of "The Type Specimen Book" or something similar. A lot of the different typefaces used by the prop makers to print this stuff has never even been converted into a font.

This is my very first post. But I want everyone here to know that I absolutely love this place. I've been looking for hi-res images from BttF for a very, VERY long time.

Yes I have that image.

Just like with the Part 3 Letter from Doc, I've noticed that there are lots of variations in the handwriting in the different versions I have seen. :unsure

This one i posted on the same sigiht that have eplained this is actual writen by MArty and have provided a sample of the same underneath so it should be correct as i have allways found screen used to be an excellent site in my personal opnion

That letter was also created for the production of BTTF, but it is not the same copy that you actually see in the movie. Each one has minor differences because they were all actually handwritten by Michael J. Fox. :thumbsup

The reason for this is that there are usually extra copies of any of the important props in a film, especially paper props, so production won't be slowed down if a replacement is needed but unavailable.

I have some HD screencaps of the letter from the movie. If anyone can manipulate the images enough to get something usable, just let me know and I will post them here. :cool There are a few words or parts of words that are not visible however.

Here are the HD screencaps of the letter.
(Keep in mind that the Lou's Cafe stationery is 7x10, not 8.5x11)

And here is a screencap of the envelope also, which would be a little less than 7.5" wide but I'm not sure of the exact dimensions.

I never noticed this before, but the underline under the writing on the envelope looks like it was done in either pencil or crayon instead of the ink used to write "Do not open until 1985."

I noticed that too. It's because of the fountain pen he was using. It was almost out of ink when he did the underline.

Has anyone else ever noticed this one?
The name on the tow truck at the beginning of BTTF is "Red Thomas Jr." :lol

I don't know if it's already been done, but the only 'YOU'RE FIRED' fax I could find on the net is a low quality version.

Attached is my quick re-do of the fax. I re-did the address, drew the CUSCO header (as it was quicker than trying to find the font) and used the existing 'YOU'RE FIRED' but I lightend it a bit so its more grey than black.

PS. Now with those screen grabs of Martys letter, who's going to create the most accurate version? I've had a look through my files and have about 4 different hand writing styles!!

Great job Thrillhouse,

you're right that the font is hard to find, that's why I uploaded my CUSCO logo here:

It was done with the same pen, it's just that Michael J Fox moved the pen too fast and it ran out of ink along the way.
