Back to the Future

That bag might make for a unique custom hoverboard too!

You are right!!!I forgot the hoverboard!!!There is this pattern right?
Eheheh now I must make a hoverboard...

in the meanwhile do you like my homemade almanac?I bidding at home, I know it isn't perfect but is my first proof (thanks to Roland for the graphic)

I repeat sorry for my english, I wan't use a online traslator I hate it.I prefer to wrong but alone.

...
I know is not the same, because the pattern is different. Tommorow I will buy a big size of this bag, but i don't know how I can print over that. Maybe with a stamp of logo (Roland can you help me? I remember you buy a personalized stamp, right?)

...

I'm not sure if a stamp would work with the bag. I never tried it. It worked well with my "Biff Co." napkins (paper!), but when I tried it on the blue almanac receipt (plastic!) it looked awful, even though I used permanent ink. So I don't think a stamp would work with a plastic bag. If anyone has a better solution, please tell us (and no, I don't put a plastic bag into my laser printer :lol)!

My experience with the "Tales From Space":

1 Print the cover and cut it.
2 Print all the pages 2 sides
3 Fold all pages
4 Place pages one after the other
5 Staple the pages in the cover
6 Cut along the cover

Thank you again Roland.:thumbsup

Uhm...I don't have a inkjet printer I have only a B/W laser print...On youtube I saw a guy with the perfect replica of the bag but i don't know how he printed on that damn bag :)

For the blue almanac receipt maybe monday I will try with inkjet printed and trasperent lucid paper for projector. Is right?

If you mean the one that is available on eBay, then it's far from being perfect. I have never seen a perfect replica of that bag.

You need a printer, which is able to print non-transparent gray or silver color on a translucent (blue) plastic sheet. That's the problem. I don't know any home printer that is able to do this.

Here's an idea for the Blast from the Past bag:

1) Get matte silver, adhesive vinyl (Like this: Amazon.com: 12" x 20 ft Roll of Metallic Silver Permanent Adhesive-Backed Vinyl for Craft Cutters, Punches and Vinyl Sign Cutters - Vinyl Ease V0406: Arts, Crafts & Sewing )
2) Buy some iridescent cellophane wrap. (Like this stuff: Amazon.com: Cindus Cellophane Wrap 30" Wide 5 Foot Roll Iridescent CW75112; 6 Items/Order: Kitchen & Dining )
3) Adhere the cellophane to the vinyl.
4) Cut the new material to size
5) Heat weld the seams (With something like a clothes iron or a flat iron for hair) so that the cellophane is on the outside.
6) Apply graphics...possibly with screen printing?

Thoughts?

I already had this idea. Except for your point 1) - I thought about silver colored mailing bags, no vinyl. :)

Great minds think alike! :love

My first thought was to modify an existing grey/silver bag, but just imagine cellophane would be a pain to glue to another surface...at least without having the glue be visible or having it fall off over time. It's definitely one of those things we're just going to have to experiment with.

I think this bag will be a project of mine in the new year. Should be fun.

Not necessary! I already tried it. It's really a pain and doesn't work. :lol My next idea was to use silver iridescent (spray) paint with those mailing bags. I didn't try it yet.

Do your best and good luck! I've (almost :p) given up. ;)

I'm going to need all that luck...luckily there really do seem to be a TON of different techniques to try. This is one I was considering looking into just because it could be tested so cheaply: make-your-own iridescent bkgd paper - Paper Arts Forum - GardenWeb

...just not sure if it would be flexible enough.

Here's a sample of a piece of paper treated with this technique: FIRST HAND LEARNING - SCIENCE FIRST HAND: How can we make rainbows out of nail polish?

That sounds great. I hope it works the same with plastic bags. It might be worth trying.

*going to steal my girlfriend's nail polish* :D

I just did a few quick experiments, and it does seem to create an iridescent film that flexes with the bag...HOWEVER it was hard to get it to look smooth, AND even after drying could be rubbed off.

Might work for a display-only bag if someone can perfect the application process. The polish tends to remain suspended in the water in circular clumps so it tends to be patchy on the bag.

I can't tell if it's time for more experiments (Different brands, techniques, additives, water temp, etc) or time to go back to the drawing board.

Anyone know more about this company and shoe? This looks like excellent quality :confused

They're the current chinese knockoffs. The first batch seems to have had some quality control issues and they're going to a new factory to get a new batch made up. They cost around $250+shipping most places.

This is the kind of "clone website" where you pay with Western Union and in 2 weeks, the site is down.

Good luck my friends.:cry
