I'm watching it in bits and peices on netflix.

this seems like a really disjointed documentary. it jumps randomly from things. I got through the first 30 minutes. so far I have no idea why that rick and morty guy is in there..and why we needed to see clips from his show. I would have cut out the BTTF tribute band as it seemed more like an ad for them. and I also would have cut out the golf course guy.

The problem I see with these documentaries is how they are billed.
I thought this was going to be more about the movie and behind the scenes discussion with the talent involved in the movie. there is some of that.. but then you have people who where not associated with it talking about their memories. it's like, ok..enough of the rick and morty guy, get back to michael j fox!

same goes for the 'definitive' turtles documentary. they billed it as lots of stuff die hard fans didn't know. I knew about 95% of things in there. the only thing that was cool to see was some of the behind the scenes footage at the henson creature shop making the costumes. and the peter laird home movies. the one thing that I Was looking forward too, the 80s cast reunited in a round table discussion, was hardly in the movie! they also skipped huge chunks of the franchise, like 2k3 and the 2nd and 3rd movies. it's like they just compiled a bunch of facts from the internet and had people talk about the basics.

so far, i'm enjoying back in time far more than the turtles documentary...but it's not how I would have edited it together ;o). I'm hoping the ghostbusters documentary still coming is the best of the batch. plan to finish back in time tonight.

Agreed. I watched it in one go on Netflix yesterday and got bored by the end. It just seemed to follows the exact same beats that seem to be the norm for any documentary these days about sci-fi films/TV/comic books.

“Little bit about the history of the movie. Then talking head celebrities who have nothing to do with the film talking about it. Then a piece about how dedicated some fans are and how the film impacted their lives. Focus on a fan with special needs who talks about how the film inspired him to deal with his disability. Focus on another fan who was inspired by the film to pursue some business or invention. Then the stars talk about how great and special their fans are.”

I hope that doesn’t sound harsh, and I get that the subtitle of the film is the “cultural impact” - but it just felt very rote, and not a whole lot different from “Trekkies” or any number of other Star Trek/Star Wars documentaries of the past 15 years.

Though it was very cool the number of original stars/behind the scenes personnel they got access to; I just wish there’d been more of that and less of the “feel-good” stuff about the fans that seems to be used as filler in so many of the documentaries. I was hoping for more.

one of the things that shocked me about the people that put this together, was watching their nycc panel. they didn't even know that James tolkan was still alive. i mean, come on.
to me, it didn't seem like they where fans so much as they got assigned this and had to do as best a job as possible. it was a very odd nycc panel.

So, I'm not the only one who didn't like the Rick and Morty guy. Every time they showed the interview of him, it bothered me for some reason. He even says that BTTF 3 "sucks". No real BTTF fan or anyone who has respect for the trilogy would ever say that. If they took him out completely, I think the documentary would have been better. I agree about the NYCC panel. I watched it live online, and I felt the same way.

i still have yet to get my bluray copy... i preordered it through amazon. never got a email confirmation, or was it added to my list.. i ordered again this past saturday. i that there was going to be good coverage of the time machine restoration, if there isnt im going to fell suckered again! what the hell do i have to do to see some new pictures of the time machine restor....

Yup.
So far, from what I've seen, this is really quite bad.

Did anyone order the bluray from Amazon? I haven't gotten any email yet confirming anything? My Amazon account checks out ok with matching email, and it's listed under my orders.. Just find it weird. This is what happens the first time

after seeing some of these posts I don't even know if it's worth the 40 bucks...

:(

Honestly, I got about a third of the way into it and turned it off. Don't know if I'll ever bother to finish it.

Yeah agree, that Rick and Morty guy wasn't a good addition to this film. Didn't he say BTTF 2 and 3 sucked?! What the hell?! Why are you on this film...?!

finally saw the rest of it today. I guess on a whole it wasn't bad, but it was advertised wrong. it was less about the stars and more about the fans. I was expecting more cool behind the scenes info or factoids I didn't know, and didn't get alot of that. it seemed like it was used mostly to promote famous fans in the community and the projects they do that are official than anything else (And as someone who would like to be doing that, it just annoys the hell out of me that I can't find a way to do the same, making a living out of something I love ;o)).

Turtle Power Documentary was also billed wrong. I was expecting a full round table discussion of the 80s tmnt cast (that barely lasted a minute). I was expecting lots of found footage we've never seen before (in the movie, but barely ten percent of the movie). I was expecting a full run down of the franchise (but instead, all I got was focus on the mirage comics, some first movie and toon stuff and that was about it). that was also dissapointing because of the way it was billed.

so far, the only one that lives up to itself is 'I know that Voice'. what I expected is what I got.

that is what i was expecting too.

the only thing i learnt from this was that mjf sat down next to deceased former welsh royalty at the premiere and wasn't allowed to talk to her(?!)
oh, and that rick and morty guy, f him

Watched it on Netflix last week and was very disappointed. Glad I didn't waste any money on the Blu-ray. It's certainly not something I would ever watch again. :thumbsdown
