B-Wing Thread

guys...I am working on the B again, that project has been stading still for too long now. I needed to build some parts like the guns and some of those box like part around the engines, but other things had interfered, but now I want to finish it. Frank and I extimate to have it ready around christmas if everything goes well... Im currently visiting Frank in LA and we have dicussed the project.
When im back home within 14 days I will post some pictures of its current state. My Bwing isn't going to be 100% accurate, I just haven't IDed all the parts yet. BUT it is a very nice model of the Bwing. Beside ILM made 2 B's which werent identical, so I guess a little creative freedom wont hurt while building it. Stay tuned....

Moe, on that note, let us know what you may be stuck for on ID's, id be happy to take a look anyway, i did make a few finds on the B a while back!

Moe! I couldn't be more pleased that you are continuing work on this beastie!

When you guys are ready, I will definitely be IN for TWO of them. ;) :D

Hey Moe,

Any progress being made on the B-Wing? I'm really looking forward to a kit of it someday. It seems, from the pics I've seen, that you didn't have much more to do on it.

I am also very much looking forward to the release of this as a kit, its not like any toes are being stepped on anymore? Go on, give us the best B wing you can baby, I'd love to do it all again......PLease????

Hi Moe,

Just wondering what the status of the kit is
and also, could you confirm/estimate the scale
for us??
(Sorry if that info was already posted)

Cheers,
AK

Yeah looked at these parts for a bit myself Moe. Nothing turned up, but, i do agree with the lip being a rubber tyre or track, i think too small for any form of RC....but something along the lines of a German halftrack maybe?

As for the cone.....very tricky, seems to have a chromed or polished F1 rim internally, and the outer hmmm, shape looks good to the larger bomb from the airfix Stuka....but, that then may be too small. Im guessing the engine would be maybe an inch and half at the most in diameter?

Then again....those "slats" could be handlaid, then cast around the engine rim Moe.....if they were a formed tyre, all the slats would be parallel.....and clearly, they are not...hmm could be a simple piece of styrene, or kitpart laid around......decieving.

Looking at the side view, they look like individual strips applied because they're out of alignment vertically too. They don't all end in a straight line on the engine (left) side.

It does really look like a tire though - maybe the color is influencing that appearance. If it is a tire, the master for it was a bit sloppy.

Ive been thinking about the C5 Galaxy, seen a build up somewhere, but can't remember where. The outer housing could be from a Airliner or Transport plane. Perhaps a Jumbo Jet or similar. Something that Ive been wondering about is the small pipes/details on the bell. Just some ideas.

I allways though the part on the bells was a folded over tire but now i am not so sure. You can see a join line on one of the bells as though it was a flat piece rolled around.

Guys, any idea what, if anything, was used for the large 'drop tank/cigar' shapes on the sides of the intake. I cant find anything close and its driving me nuts!!

thanks

Arent the drop tanks modelled off, or used from the F14?

As for the engine bells, blooming tricky, i cant figure whether the pipe detail, is part of the mold now....or scribed in, when i say scribed in, i mean raised, like the stuff im doing on the RT now with the back of a scalpel...it forms a raised line?
