Re: Azurial's Pep Files - Transformers Gen 1; Megatron Blaster now Up!
Nice work so far man!
I've seen the original suits made back in the 80s first hand, I must say even by today's standards they're still fantastic.
I managed to find a few pics online of them here:
toybot studios: Bubblegum Crisis Live! Circa 1989
I've seen the Linna suti and the Nene suit, but I have no idea where the Priss suit is at this point, and no Sylia suit was ever made to my knowledge.
I noticed someone mentioned the feet as a problem. In the original promo suits, the foot/shin armor doesn't wear like a high heel, even though its made to look that way. since the area around the foot is so thick, the original prop maker had the ingenious idea to basically have them wear like a platform shoe instead of a heel, making it MUCH more comfortable for the wearer.
The helmet visors were also ingenious. They slid up and down like in the show, but were made from a colored plastic(acrylic I think) that was fuzzy on the top half, but clear on the bottom half, the difference could really only be seen from inside the helmet, but allowed the wearer to see out with ease.
I was also impressed by the fact that the suits could even collapse like the suits in the show(as seen in Nene's suit in the link), but that may be more trouble than it's worth to do in my opinion.
From what I understand the suits are currently up for sale to anyone interested, but the owner wants 7,000 USD for the nene suit and 6,000 for the Linna suit, and to be honest they were in VERY VERY poor condition when I saw them, with many broken parts and even missing some pieces, and that was a few years ago. I always figured I'd get around to making my own suit at some point, and didn't feel like paying that much for broken and incomplete costumes.
Still, I think that the techniques the original suit maker used are still worth using today. If you guys want to know anymore about the suits I'll try and tell you what I can.
