I got an unexpected phone call from Richard (REL) today. He received the printed parts today and sent me some pictures. To say I am excited is an understatement. Even in its printed state the level of detail and sharp lines is incredible.

Richard worked with his printer for several weeks to get the files set up to print. The layout was done in a way that will ultimately make it ideal for making a vacuform negative mold. Don't worry about the parts being in multiple sections, Richard will be putting them together. It was necessary to print the parts in sections due to the printer size.

Over the next several days, Richard will be cleaning of the parts and applying a bondo layer and primer coat. As those pictures become available, I will post more updates.

Enjoy!

Wow those do look REALLY good. the parts surface looks a little rough but I'm gueessing that's part of the cleanup that REL needs to perform after the parts are grown...

Forgive my ignorance here, but will the final kit have all the saucer and other parts split up in all those sections like that?

If so isn't that going to be a rather tough build?

That's how the pieces came out of the 3D printer, they'll all be assembled and cleaned up before molded. The saucer will be a top and bottom etc.

Thanks for the clarification Richard. Yes the parts are "rough" due to the printing process. Richard will clean them up, get a layer of bondo on it and primer. The parts had to be printed in sections due to the printer size. The saucer will be pieced together by Richard before the negative molds are created.

Thanks for the interest folks. Stay tuned for more exciting updates.

It will be on the same scale as the PL Refit. When built, it wil be approximately 32.5 inches in length.

The ship will be offered in parts for the model builder to pick and choose what they want. To purchase all parts to make a TOS E, it will be aroud $225 for a vacuform/resin kit version and $500+ for a fiberglass/resin version.

I spoke to Richard and he is still working on the E-D. Once it is complete he will be personally delivering it to his client in California. He is hopeful that he will be able to finish working on the TOS E parts in July.
