Avp Predator Armor Ideas

Ok, since the testing at Battlefield, it has struck me that I need to use armor in order to get the bulk look. Just the armor, I got the rest all planned out pretty well. However the predator armor used in the AVP films seems very well done. So I want some ideas. I have considered using foam or another material to use but everyone seems to use templates which I cannot find anywhere. So I may do something different. In the mean time, I would like to hear out your ideas on the matter. What should I use to create such armor without having to spend too much money. Since I am currently commissioning Aliens FX to create an LED Wrist Console/Bomb. So yeah, what are my options here? Oh and the armor will be full BLACK so weathered looks and detail painting will not be an issue. Also I have found an idea to create a dread like hat for my bio mask as well.

So far this place is very very useful in coming up with successful ideas, Thank you all for being supportive!

Interesting on how you can use foam for just about anything. But if these are sold in rolls, where can I find them?

Well, have you tried Google?

I'm aware foam is used in props, what I meant was Google for the rolls of foam.  You need Pepakura designed to be able to open the files.  Again, Google is your friend.

Very funny. Well I'll look for it then, I need to get started real soon. I'll be posting pics of my progress In a New Topic.

Thought Id show you guys on what I am going for in my Predator Armor, its a quick doodle so its not the best. My best is on DeviatnArt.

Just started my work on my AVP armor, Starting with the Shoulder Pauldrons. I used the templates vinmman provided and I made a mock up of the first shoulder. I would have continued if the crafts store didn't have so little stock of the foam sheets. Anyways here is a photo of my progress.

New Update

The store I but the 9 x 12 foam sheets were out of black so I got white and will spray gloss black on them. I like how it is looking so far, but the biceps pieces maybe off a little. Like I said I am using vinnman's templates to create this upper body armor. If anybody here thinks I did something wrong, please tell me! This is only a mock up so nothing has been glued together yet. I still got plenty of foamie sheets left as spares in case something goes wrong. So far, everything is going smoothly.

You'll need to seal those foamie pieces before you paint them, or the paint will soak in like a sponge.  I seal my foamie pieces with a couple coats of Elmers glue that has been watered down 50-50. Then I primer and paint.

Well, these will have a design on them so I need to paint each piece before using the hot glue gun. Unless that's a bad idea, then I'll just put everything together and then paint. Another thing is, I do not know how to seal them.

Seal each piece separately, then paint it and assemble the pieces together.

To seal each piece, take a bottle of ordinary white school glue, like elmers, and put it into a cup or bowl.  Add enough water to double the volume (50-50 mix of water and glue).  Stir it with a stick and mix it all together--it will have the consistency of milk.  Use a brush to coat the entire piece with this, let it dry, then add another coat and let that dry. Then you're ready to paint. Paint each piece separately, and then assemble them together (if you try to assemble the pieces first and then paint the whole thing, you'll miss all the areas that overlap).

Can't I just use Spray Paint? That's what I have currently. And that's what Impact Props uses on his foam builds.

If you don't seal the foam, any paint you use will soak in like a sponge.

Foam IS, after all, a sponge.
