Avengers: Endgame (Pre-release)

Just thinking... they say a 30 sec commercial on the Super Bowl roughly costs 5 million dollars...

That’s a expensive trailer...

I really don't get this high spending on adverts. Yes, before the internet, then I can see that hitting a potential audience in the 100 million plus mark in the US on tv made some sort of sense. Nowadays with social media and the saturation coverage that it produces, it seems like a waste. I am guessing there must be some tax allowance that enables the movie companies to offset this kind of spending. Does anybody here know?

PS I did watch all the movie trailers and the best adverts this morning on YouTube. I think the best one is the Budlight/GOT crossover. That DID make me laugh out loud

There are still a lot of people who have no interest in social media, myself included. I watch some things on YouTube but they are specific- I do not watch it much outside some narrow interests.
The Superbowl used to be one of the big epic events of the year- I don't care much for organized sports but I love the commercials. When airtime costs so much only the big can afford it, but with a guaranteed audience they could really make an impact so a lot of them went all out. while viewership has declined recently is is still pretty respectable.

I have seen that 'Avengers: Endgame' teaser twice and I can;t really tell much from it aside from setting a pretty bleak mood for the film. Opinions?

Yeah, it looks bleak, but when half of everyone in the living universe has been snapped out of existence, its not really party time is it?

I think the Russo's are going to pull the biggest rabbit out of the hat ever with this one.

As long as the intermission isn't a hard cut somewhere in the middle, I'm actually okay with it. I used to love going to the drive in for a double feature. Of course, that intermission isn't quite the same. Even stage theater has intermissions, and they don't break the flow or momentum if done right.

For a three hour run time, I think a break to take a leak and get a popcorn refill is acceptable.

One of the best intermissions, IMO, is the one in 2001. We are with Frank and Dave in the pod, with them discussing having to disconnect HAL without him hearing. But then we see he's reading their lips. Intermission.

Meh, i'm with Anibal :)

Weren't 2 of the 3 LOTR 3 hours or more? They didn't have intermissions. I'd think theaters would be against it as it'd add what? 15-20 minutes to the run time, meaning at least 1 less showing per day.

I'd guess and say if they do have an intermission it will be at an absolutely critical point, like when one of the surviving Avengers actual dies and is thus "unsnapable" or that a new introduction (like "Captain Marvel") appears.

Personally I think the cinemas will go for it, alot of their key extra profit comes from sales of food stuffs during an intermission, people can whip out their mobile phones and tweet about how epic the movie has been so far, thus creating a bigger buzz. A pause makes absolute sense to me.

So from a business perspective I think most cinema chains will up their game by having this shown on a massive number of screens for a couple of weeks at the very least , and making sure that the midnight showings will not be just the one screening but many to cope with the demand. They did that at my local because they had so many prebookings.

And the extra screenings will be starting earlier in the day, as with "Infinity War". They opened at 10.00 am with mine, and I had to give my car registration so I didn't get hit with a parking fine for going over the three hour period.

We aren't that far away now. Just four weeks and "Captain Marvel" is out on 8th March in the UK, eleven weeks and its "End game".
