Atomic Pistol, Done for now, Pics Page 3.

I am currently engaged with some steampunk related stuff, and am making both a pistol, and rifle that match, sort of.

I will chronicle it here, as things progress. Here's some pics of the custom parts, and some other pieces I've cobbled together.

I hope to have the completed pieces done sometime this weekend.

One barrel is going to be longer than the other, as one is for the pistol, the other for the rifle. Copper is our friend.

This is the back end of the pistol and rifle, except that the rifle will have a stock coming off the back.

The guns will actually light up, and vibrate when you power them on. They'll also shoot a beam of light which will add to the novelty.

I am custom sculpting a wooden stock for the rifle, and a handle for the pistol, which I should hope to have posted over the weekend. The assembly and making things work is the real trick. I also have to sculpt the forward and rear sights for it, which will be cast in resin.

Thanks for looking!

Oh wow. :eek

Are those all found parts? Where'd the you get the gold colored bits? Those really cool looking.
Definitely looking forward to seeing this finished. :thumbsup

Re: Atomic Pistol, And Rifle.

Neato! What found items are those clear parts?

Re: Atomic Pistol, And Rifle.

I'm going to guess that the clear parts are plastic lenses from solar powered landscape lights.

Re: Atomic Pistol, And Rifle.

Someday I might divulge all of the parts I used, but I will there are a lot of custom parts involved.

The clear parts are one of them.

Here's the upper receivers on both the pistol, and rifle. I have 2 laser emitters, motors to vibrate the piece when powered up, and some bread boards I'm making for the LED's that go inside the chassis to light it up after I've put some clear cast greeblies on the outside of it. The battery pack is external and has enough cable to make it comfortable. The battery pack will have a leather carry case hand stitched by me, and a nice metal hook to hang either pistol or rifle from it.

For being my first raygun prop, I'm having a lot more fun than I probably should have.

Re: Atomic Pistol, And Rifle.

Wow, looks pretty cool so far. All steamy and delicious.
Looking forward to more pix

Re: Atomic Pistol, And Rifle.

I forgot to mention that I'll be sculpting some texture onto the chassis around the little round greeblie lights. I also shot the video when the batteries were on their last leg. Put new batteries in it, and man it really lights up better.

Should have the final finished pics up tonight, late.

Re: Atomic Pistol, And Rifle.

I would move to Hawaii. I don't know that Hawaii has as many surplus and junk stores as where I live though. I'm on a third shift schedule, and will hopefully have the final pics up tonight after I do a bunch of wood carving for the handle.

Re: Atomic Pistol, And Rifle.

Whoa, just saw the light test- Super sweet!
Well done

Re: Atomic Pistol, And Rifle.

That was when the battery pack was only half charged. The new light test is actually better.

I'm making a nice leather pouch for the battery pack. Oilskin Leather, with copper accents for that extra steampunk look. The battery connects to the pistol or the rifle by means of a plug.

The pistol is actually done, but I have to finish the battery pack for it to now light up. The power supply is separate from the pistol for the simple fact that I wanted to be able to display the pistol and rifle and not have to worry about battery corrosion.

The battery pack is complete. The power jack is a 1/4" plug jack, with a 5' cord that I just fabricated. The pistol should be done sometime tonight, as I'm doing a bunch of sculpt work on it.

Thanks for looking!

Re: Atomic Pistol, And Rifle.

You are doing a great job! And also the leather work looks great!:thumbsup

Re: Atomic Pistol, And Rifle.

I am going to add the copper accents after I give the pouch some weathering and such.

I'll then oxidize them as well, in order to make the piece look old and weathered.

The pistol is nearly done. Lots of rivets and stuff being put on tonight.
