I'm a huge newb to photoshop and I wanted to know if there's a way to warp a plane (like the surface of this book) to face front, hopefully without too much data loss.

I would love to make this into a book sleeve, but I lack talent. Holler back if this exists already.

That's called perspective correction. You can do it in photoshop itself(it's called lens correction I think), but I use DCE tools (plug-ins for photoshop), and then you get something like this

it's pretty bad, but you can use it as a starting point.
