looking at some wool for a Jedi cloak.

MADE IN ITALY

COAT
WEIGHT

54" WIDE

100% WOOL

Dry Clean

the color is a tan, but I would like to dye it a dark brown. I'm pretty sure that 100% wool will dye very well. Right?

Should I look into using another base color? thanks in advance

Wool will dye nicely yes but if it is boiled or fulled or treated it will not take dye as well and may even be blotchy.

Any more info on this particular fabric? There isn't enough info to be able to tell. A photo would help if it shows the weave.

thanks .. its a box weave

one problem with dying is that alot of commercial dyes require it to be dyed with hot water. The one enemy of Wool fabric is heat + moisture. That is what causes wool to shrink. If you do this prior to cutting anything out, it may work fine. Just a thought. I'd try to find a dye that doesn't require hot water( not sure if it exists ). Also, you really need to let this stuff air dry as heat from a dryer is gonna do the exact same thing. Peace,

Dave :)

They do make cold water dyes that work well on wool. You usually have to make the dye with a hot bath, then cool it.
