I was wondering if there was a commercial pattern anyone knows about for a garment of this shape and collar design? I have a unique costume idea a pile of fabric, a sewing machine, and I thought this shape of coat would be great for it. I am mostly just looking for the two front pannels, sleeves and cuffs, back, and collar. The frilly buttons and what not are not important.

I am not a good pattern maker, hence the looking foor one thread here. :)

Here is what I got from a quick search:

**Best option IMO**

The coat you referenced is based off of a Revolutionary to Victorian era frock coat. Several patterns exist out there, and depending on where you are at, you can find additional options at re-enactment locations, such as RevWar re-enactments or RenFaires.

Cool, thanks for the links and the tip. Hadn't thought about it but I'm actually headed to an NMLRA shoot next moth that has a large Living History community of American history groups. Bound to be some pattern sellers there.

As a professional pattern maker, I think you guys may be overcomplicating things. That piece looks like a modern trench with the historical details. Very similar in shape to that simplicity Matrix coat http://www.simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=5386

Of course if You are just going for a similar look, you could use one of the historical patterns and decorate as desired.

Now in all honesty, you will likely spend more time and money creating this yourself than you will just dropping the 95 bucks on the one in your link.

Thanks Chris. I have fabric on hand and I am not looking for anything fancy, just the coat style with a similar collar, all in one color with a simple button up front. I have a good sewing machine with a button-holer and plenty of thread.
