Anyone else ready for an Alex Ross style Superman movie?

I know I am. It would be the one reboot I’d be all in on.

In today’s Deepfake, CG, AI technology, it’s completely possible. Set in the original timeframe as the original (who doesn’t like period pieces).

Alex’s interpretation of Superman (and all other Superheroes for that matter) is the best. The way Superman should look.

That looks like a middle-aged man.
I think Superman should have somewhat of a boyish face. He is immortal, after all.

RedLetterMedia's review of the new Superman movie highlighted one fundamental aspect of the Superman franchise and character that I hadn't thought of before: Superman is about positivism. He is not supposed to be dark and edgy. He is not judgmental in his nature. He has no reason to frown.
Therefore, the facial expressions in these images are wrong for him.

I can dig the Alex Ross style in small doses, but every male character having the world's most pronounced lantern jaw is a bit off putting eventually

Superman has always been stoic. He’s got the weight of the world on his shoulders. One of the characteristics of a classic superhero, especially Superman is the stoic look. It conveys in-control confidence. The whole genre is marketed to youth. Back then, creators were different. The world was different. Masculinity was not frowned upon. Fathers (and men in general) were portrayed in very positive ways.

Superman was created at the very beginning of WWII. By the time the war ended in 1945, you had a whole generation of fatherless children. The Superhero genre exploded. The entertainment industry had a responsibility to replace missing fathers with Superheroes and strong fathers on television. These creators felt a responsibility to become surrogate Fathers.

My Dad was one of those kids. He was born in 1943 and lost his father to the war when he was two. He told me that he learned how to be a man and a Dad by reading comic books and watching TV (he names Father Knows Best and Leave it to Beaver as direct influences). Superman was his favorite, and that influenced me in the 60’s and 70’s when I bought comic books.

I guess that’s why I am drawn to Alex Ross’ portrayal of Superman and would love to see his version.

This is still one of the best DC super hero stories for anyone that hasn't read it yet. It collects Alex Ross artwork on Superman, Batman, Shazam, Wonder Woman, the origin of many DC heroes before the lead up to the final Justice League story.
