Hey.
The kit's okay in areas but really needs some aftermarket items to make it shine. Here's where I got 'em:
Federation Models
You'll need:
Under Products/Federation Models
Miranda Class Saucer Correction Kit RMC-15, $15.
This kit is valuable because of the new, corrected 'transom'. The shuttle bay doors and impulse deck are redesigned and MUCH closer to the filming miniature than the Ertl kit. Or, if you want to go hog-wild and pig-crazy, you can get RMC-30, which is the same but includes a shuttle bay.
DSML Sensors RMC-33, $8.
These replace the sensors that are at the juncture between the saucer and the 'ramp' area on the top of the primary hull. Although this set isn't exactly a requirement, it is a nice improvement.
Under Products/Don's Light and Magic
Miranda-class Upper Decks and Bridge DLM-21 $10
This piece is a HUGE improvement from the kit's bridge/B/C decks.
Under Decals/JTGraphics
Miranda class decals JTG-04 $15
HUGE improvement over the kit decals. Not only that but you're not limited to the
Reliant. They sell just about any name/number that appeared on
Mirandas in the various shows, plus you can contact JTGraphics directly and he'll print up any name/number combo you want. That's what I did with
Cassiopeia.
Sensor Bands and Windows JTG-G04 $8.50
Once you thicken up the hull and sand off those awful raised ribs, you'll really appreciate this set.
Now for the EXTREMELY perfecto item -
Under Products/Federation Frontiers
Miranda Class General Plans FF-06, $13
Beautiful work. Absolutely exquisite. Deck by deck plans - very clearly and finely drawn. You can get them from Federation Models or you can do a search online and get them straight from the maker himself. He'll also do custom names/numbers/ship logos, etc. so again you're not stuck with
Miranda or
Reliant. Yes, I had him do a set for
Cassie too.
See you in the Spacedock.
