Any suggestions for a new collector?

Greetings, I'm just starting to get into the world of prop collecting and i thought who better to ask for help than the experts that can be found on this site... The must have for me right now is the Wing Commander Pilgrim Cross though im having trouble finding it... Im really into SciFi/Fantasy shows/movies and props that can be worn, (preferrably around the neck or rings) so if anyone knows any good props that would work for me that would be awesome...

If your looking for screen used props check out the prop store of London they have some amazing stuff there. Alternatively if your just after a fan made prop check the junkyard or use the search function at the top of he page.

well i was actually looking for suggestions for replicas i should be looking at.... good shows and good replicas... i just like odd things that can be worn.... things that kind of stand out and can be used as conversational pieces you know?... stuff like the One ring from LOTR and the Time Turner from HP...

Kinda can't suggest what you should buy as well it's really personal opinion on what you like most. The Psol (prop store of London) does have a very comprehensive and up to date list of items.

If your looking for Harry potter stuff you can always check out the Warner bros. site as they have alot of the noble collection stuff.

Just have a browse through the junkyard as there are plenty of fan made replicas of some awesome pieces.

Oh and btw welcome :lol

The only suggestion I give to you as new collector is : make sure you can afford whatever you buy. Collecting is like hovering around a black hole. If you get inadvertantly sucked in, you're in big trouble.

hmm... You have all given me a lot to think about.... especially considering that i have an addictive personality... oh well maybe I'd better stick with the gambling... :)

Steve (sdstudios) had some for sale on the junkyard recently. Also, yeah, the Propstore of London is THE best place for props. screenused.com is also amazing.

Welcome to the Forums!

It sounds like you have an idea of what you want to collect already. Stick with it. You could start collecting super hero rings like that of the Green Lantern or an entire set of the rings of power from the Lord of the Rings. With all collections it starts small with one or two things. Then little by little your collection will start to grow.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. :cheers

If I recall correctly last time I looked they do have a replica props section. But the majority of there wares are screen used items with certificates of authenticity.

Agree with everyone else.. Also, do be careful what you collect, as there's a lot of movies where you just won't stop..

Examples, you might be into Freddy Krueger, so you want to get the most iconic symbol, the glove.. But then you want to display it nicely, so you want fedora to display with it.. But wouldn't it look good to have a Freddy mask / bust.. But i doesn't look right, you need the shirt so the mask and glove blend nicely with it.. But seeing you get the shirt, you might as well get pants and shoes.. But then the display is a mess, so you get a mannequin.. But the left hand looks weird as you have the head and glove.. So you get the burnt left hand.. But then wouldn't it be cool to lift the shirt and see the torso souls..

Same goes for Indy, Star Wars / Trek, V, Fifth Element etc etc.. As they've said, get out now, while you still can!!

ok well lets say that i wanna find an original prop from a movie.... an older movie from the 90's whose props have probably all sold out by now.... not replicas the actual movie set props.... is there any way to go about that that you guys know of?

or failing that do you know of any way to get the origional design for props?... mostly to see what they where originally made out of?
