Any ideas on making platform heels? Kiss not drag queen!

I was trying to think of a way to do platform heels for a Gene Simmons costume. The heel should be close to 7 in. I am guessing the front 5-6 in.

I know motor cowboy does them but I can't swing the $1500.;)

I was thinking of taking solid soles and cutting out the center, but I am afraid of loosing the integrity of the shoe.

I was also thinking of wood blocks but that seems uncomfortable for walking.

Anyone ever do this type of shoe before?

I had a pair of cowboy boots that needed repair, and I took it to a cobbler in a mall. I decided to hang around because I had never seen the operation before. It was amazing how they were able to salvage the entire boot simply by replacing the heel (yeah, yeah, I know... "Simple things amuse simple minds" but it sure beat the heck out of buying a new boot altogether.)

What they had was heel material - very hard rubber. Some of this was pre-cut but they further sanded it down on some kind of grinder. A belt grinder will probably do. I wouldn't necessarily use a sharpening stone wheel becuase rubber melts with heat from friction and can gunk up your sharpening stone. Or do it slowly to avoid heat buildup.

The challenge is that this heel material is continuous for only up to 2". If you're looking to do more than that, you'd have to somehow reinforce several 2" pieces. If you can find out what kind of material that is and can get a solid block of it, and then if you can figure out how the cobblers attach it to the bottom of the shoe (small nails, I think, plus industrial strength glue) you might have something there.

But it's best to find a cobbler or shoe repair place and ask them to do that for you. Better yet, if you can find the right kind of rubber, then you save on material costs, so you only pay your repair guy for labor.

I used these for my Destroyer era Gene simmons last year:

Do a search for Demonia boots.. all different heel heights and reasonably priced..should be easy to find a pair to mod..

Thanks for your help even though it is in the wrong forum!;)

I saw those chopper boots. How does the heel fit in the dragon shells? Does the edge stick out a lot?

That is the exact suit I am going for too! I will also check out Demonia.

Thanks again

ok, I got the chopper boots finally. I can't slip the dragon heads over the boots. My idea is to cut the back and slip them in.
I am guessing there will be a seam. Any idea of what I can use to fill the seam, but still make it so that it won't break when I walk in them?

Riggght - KISS...mmm...hmmm.

Coupled with the Adeno-Virus buddy in your Avatar you make a real convincing argument. :)
