Any Firefly Fans/Costumers plan on getting this?

If I remember correctly, the stitching on the holster should fold over at the top. Also, I have a couple of the original buckles (not screen used, but the same buckle) and I don't know if some kind of shrinkage happened (I don't claim to know the technical stuff) during the casting of the buckle, but there's something really wrong about it.

Not on me, my boss has all those large Firefly books with some very big pictures. I could be mistaken on the stitching, but I know the buckle is too thin, or shaped just a bit differently. Not saying it's not cast off the screen used, I just think the casting process distorted it a bit.

Dang, that's some pricey cow hide! It certainly looks nice, but I could never justify paying that much for it.

Yea, considering that's how much a Solo belt used to run it is a bit much. The Mal belt is relatively a piece of cake.

Are you referring to the belt or holster buckles? As I recall, people thought the belt buckles were from a Sam Browne belt, bit were actually from another belt entirely. Also, next time you have a chance to look at those books, look I'm the credits and you'll see Karl's name as a major contributor. You could say he wrote the book(s) on firefly props.

I mean the belt buckle, the one on the holster is definitely the exact same one as the original.

Regardless of level of involvement, people do make mistakes, but since it's not fresh in my memory I'm not going to assume I'm right about the stitching until I get another look. For all I know I'm thinking of the Serenity holster.

And yes, I know it's not a sam browne buckle, I have the German navy officer belts.

Ok look, I'm not an expert on this by any means but I know Karl is. He posts over on fireflyprops.net and would be happy to discuss it over there, since he's not a member here.

I'm not a member over there and probably won't sign up as I don't have the budget to get as involved in Firefly as I have in Doctor Who. The last thing I want to do is start an argument on screen accuracy, those never end well. For now I'll just revise my prior statement to "I can make one just as good for a third the cost."

You're probably right, it's not really worth arguing over. As I said, I'm no expert on Firefly props, although I've learned a lot since joining here and Fireflyprops.net.

A lot of that I've learned from Karl, thanks not only to his amazing collection, but his willingness to share knowledge about it. And what he doesn't have, he pretty well knows the people that do, so if he says this holster is the ultimate in accuracy, I believe him.

As to price, I can only say here what I've said over at FFProps, which is while I tend to agree that I can't afford it at the moment, I'm not going to say it's too expensive, because someone out there will pay for it, just as the guys over at Dented Helmet will pay for all the more accurate Boba pieces. Just like guys over at Club Obi Wan will pay for ever more accurate Indy pieces. I could go on, but you get the picture. In it's own way, Firefly has a hold on some of us just as Star Wars, Star Trek, Indy and other iconic franchises have a hold on their respective fan bases.

Even Doctor Who, which I also love.

Karl asked me to share these pics with you guys, to clarify the whole buckle issue...

Here are some shots of the buckle on the show and from publicity shots:

And here is a pic of the buckle on the QMx rig, which uses Karl's replica of the buckle:

Looks pretty spot on to me.

I think the price is very fair for a hand tooled leather holster and belt. Remember that the belt is included.

However, I'd never wear it anywhere and if I did, at that price, I'd be worrying about scuffing the leather all the time. I'd also be worried about wearing the paint off of my Mal gun when I drew the pistol etc. Nothing irks me more than a spot of tan resin leaking through a paint job. So ultimately, it's a very nice piece, and the price is fair but it's not for me.

I was able to nab the belt style relatively cheap a few years ago....I may even still have the link to it at home (I'll check).
I also was able to get a paper template for the holster and make one out of a vinyl material (cheap and weatherable).
I was just unable to find the lower buckle to finish it....that and the belt I got was a small and....well I'm not ;)

While I think its great they are putting the props out there....it's too expensive in my opinion......but it certainly looks nice and at first glance it appears to be accurate.
I just wish all 'licensed' props were 'screen accurate' because after all you're paying the high dollar for them.

A little pricey for me, but I don't plan on dressing as Mal anytime soon. The Hero of Canton is going to come first. On a related note, I know that SerenityGear.com used to make a lot of Jayne's leather items, but that site has gotten shut down. Does anyone know where else I could get those? I'm looking for the belt, wrist guard, and knife sheath.

I think some here may be getting the tv and movie versions of the rig confused. The movie version was a rush job made using only screen caps and production photos. If you were to see the tv and move versions side by side, much less hold them in your hands, its night and day.

Yea, I looked through that book again today, the small buckle on the QMx holster is actually the movie version.
