ANH "stunt" Stormtrooper helmet. Opinions?

If it is real it is an absolute oddity as there are several things that don't seem to add up to me... course I could be wrong.

I agree it is a strange helmet - would be nicer to hear the back story on it.

The ear caps are off, no bump in the right eye and decals (??) on the tube stripes.

Is it possibly one of AA's later attempts of the stormtrooper helmet that have been auctioned in the past?

Looks odd

Cheers Chris

I don't know about his helmet but his Indy grail looks way off for being 'screen-used'.

Looks like some guy either got duped or is really trying to pull one over on the prop community.

It is not an original helmet, it is not even close! I pm'd the deluded seller and he said this:

I hate to tell you this, but Mr. Ainsworth examined the helmet, and stated it was original.

Thanks for the input. I will admit I am certainly no Star Wars expert (Elvis Presley/ Indiana Jones are my specialty), however considering the source for the helmet (same source as the helmet from Christies Auction 12/14/2004), and the people who have looked at it (film experts Larry McQueen/ Criag Tempelton of Lucas Archives), I still believe it is an original. I have verified the provenance first hand, and even brought it to the San Diego Comic Con to have others known in the hobby(including fans who really analyze stormtrooper costumes)look at it in person. All agree that this is not made by Master Replicas (I did a side by side comparison). Master Replicas do not have the leather chin strap used on original stunt versions, metal bracated interior, nor is thiers vacu-foam as this is. Master Replica makes a three piece construction (same as this one) but with cheap foam on the inside, not the reinforced padding that this helmet has. The helmet is well used, and was disgarded from future use due to its condition in 1976 at Elstree Studios. This helmet also has all studio markings from Elstree still labled. Hope this helped.

:rolleyes

I think he must be lying because pretty much any member on here could tell this is MR derived, there is no way experts from the Lucas Archives would be that daft surely!

Here is an actual original ANH helmet in case anyone has forgotten what they look like:

definitely the MRCE! no doubt, the tube stripes, ears, and the frown join give it away.

you should pm him again with a side by side comparision of a CE and an original. and also inform him that the originals never had leather chin straps, they were elastic.

you should also ask him why it has a hero style frown (3 holes) and yet flat stunt lenses.

also ask him why he is such a muppet

Definitely the 'cheap' UK one - I've got one and it is exactly the same, less the 'battle damage' and blue lines........

sad but true... :unsure

Yes, this Dr. Jones is either:

A - dishonest, or

B - someone extremely gullible and uninformed who bought it from someone dishonest.

Either way it's sad or laughable or pathetic or predictable, depending at how you look at it!

Has to be be some kind of hoax, surely? Can someone point out to him the other MR helmets on Your Props?

I really hope that it is the case of some one trying to fool people into believe that it is an original rather then some one that got fooled into believing that it was. Because the later means he spent alot of money for something that it is not.

Either way it is bad. Either he is dishonest or he got taken by a dishonest person.

i'd be interested to know how much money he paid for that. Some people dont like to be told they've bought a turkey mind you so no amount of actual expert opinion is gonna change this fella's mind.
I'd like to say its a crying shame but some people have more money than sense and i'm guessing he's one of them :rolleyes so i shall enjoy a little chuckle at his expense :lol

My vote is he's the liar or he's embarrased at getting ripped off, if he had really checked it's authenticity with anyone other than Stevie Wonder he'd no full well it's not an original.
