ANH Luke Tatooine Farm Boy Collection

I'm pretty happy with my ANH Luke collection - Macros, hat & goggles, Kobold droid caller with D ring & machined cap, Arriflex restraining bolt, Milk cup, Death Star data card, 2 of 3 leather belt pouches, and Sideshow Farmboy Luke, C3-PO, & R2. Still waiting on my Graflex to return home from getting lights, sound, and electronics! I'd like to get the large leather scope pouch & belt, and a better head sculpt for Luke, the SS one sucks! I'm designing and building a larger display case with glass shelves and LED lighting for my collection so I can spread this all out a little. It's pretty cramped looking!

That is cool! My main interest is in ANH, and it's great that you've focused on a point in the series that most people overlook.

One question has been bothering me: why on earth does Luke have a lightsabre hook rivetted to his belt before he meets Old Ben, before he is given his first lightsabre?

I went back and looked, he has pouches and/or keeps his hand covering that part of the belt in some scenes, but when he goes to Old Ben's man-cave you can clearly see that Luke and Ben have matching lightsabre hooks on their belts:

Do all belts worn on Tattooine have these exact hooks, and if so, what do the non-Jedi use them for?

The other thing that's strange to me is that Luke strolls into the Cantina wearing his new lightsabre, big and shiny for all to see.

Old Ben has his under his cloak, which befits a man trying to fly under the radar. But Luke's is plain as day. Won't people in the Cantina recognise the old Jedi weapon? Won't they wonder where he got it, why he has it? And Luke hasn't had any training!

Wouldn't Old Ben have told Luke to be more discrete?

It´s been a long time since the jedis are gone, and i assume they also have been rarely seen on Tattooine, even before that. So the chances are good noone knows what it is.

I wouldn´t call them "lightsaber hooks", just hooks. You can put anything on them to get stuff ready to use and your hands free ..... tools, droidcallers, ....
You can buy that sort of hooks right now, to put keyrings or outdoor equipment on them. They are just not riveted, instead they slip on the belt - and most of them are now made from plastic.

I would have to go back and see if the other people on Tatooine also have those same hooks on the same place on their belts. If so, it's just a Tatooine style thing.

My theory is that the costume people looked at the script and/or the storyboards and saw that Luke needed a hook for the lightsaber he carries through much of the film, so when they made Luke's belt they put the hook on it.

And I think that it never occurred to anyone that Luke wouldn't have had the hook on his belt before he was given his lightsaber.

I wasn't happy with Sideshow's Luke head sculpt so I picked up a better one that looks like Luke off eBay. Big improvement and very reasonable!

After Disney+ 4K I decided to make a few changes to my Macros too. Black & weathered Seagull knob and clean up my transition box a little

Finally found a suitable display belt for Luke! I cut it down, cleaned it up, and used the cut off to make the loops for the D rings but realized I have to thin the thickness of the leather so it will fold over nicely. Ran out of time before my trip to New Orleans! Here's a little progress

Markus sent me a real original triangle pouch that will arrive while I'm away. I'll finish the D ring loops when I return!

Wanna Wonga belt hooks, brass rivets for the leather loops will be used like screen used belt, it'll work just fine for a display!

I fly home from New Orleans today and it looks like my real triangle pouch from Markus arrived, so I’ll jump back on thinning out the loop leather and get them riveted on after a bit of distressing. Then it’ll just be the buckle to finish this belt off!

Got the loops done!

Ordered a rivet setting kit and need to pick it up and re-do the rivet by the new pouch and set the second loop rivet. Then just the buckle and the buckle rivets. Then a little brass distressing and done, Pretty happy so far!

Thank you! Markus I’m a restoration contractor and repair flood, fire, mold, and vehicle damaged homes. I have a very talented faux painter and artist I use often, she has become a close family friend, my middle daughter works for her also. So my painting method was very simple, give her the raw buckle with a photo of Luke’s screen used belt and this is what I got a few days later! I can ask her how she did it, but she’s usually a bit private about her techniques. She did say it was a bit of a challenge! I tried several different ways and failed miserably. If you need one like this, PM me!
