Angel Axe.

Hey gang, I'm usually really good at recognizing found edged weapons, used in TV shows and movies. In fact I made quite a list of them from Buffy, and Angel. However I haven't been able to find the Axe that is featured prominently in a number of episodes of Angel. I know it's a Battle axe, but I can't find anything close to it out there. Anyone have any ideas?

BTW, before you ask, I'm not able to do any screen caps right now, but I can tell you that it's the axe Wes uses to cut off Lilah's head in season 4.

Heres a pic of the version that comes with the action figures. (It's not 100% but it's close enough to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.)

[image]http://members.aol.com/jedimasterjpb7/RPF/WESAXE1[/image]

Thanks
Jason

This is the axe you mean, and you are correct. It is featured in MANY episodes. Especially in seasons three and four. (This is a shot from the season three episode Billy)

angel306_533.jpg

Off the top of my head I know that besides being in the episodes "Billy" and season four's "Salvage" (the ep in which Wes cuts Lilah's head off). Groo used the axe more than a few times and for sure used it in season three's "The Price"

Hope this helps.

I remember the list you made but I have since lost some of the links. Do you think you could repost that list again if you still have it? I would really appreciate it.

Sorry for the lateness of my reply, I didn't see that I had a reply 'till now. Yes, that is the axe I'm looking for. Anyone know where I can get one? :)

I looked for my listed, and I found an old draft, I don't know if it's all there, and I know some of the links are dead now. Plus it's missing the Buffy part, but for what it's worth, here you go:

ANGEL: Guide to Prop Weapons and more (lot's of pics)

First, a word, or two, on "edged weapons" in general. An "edged weapon" is any weapon that ......well..... has an edge, like Swords, knives, axes, etc. As a collector of "edged weapons" you should be aware, that there are 3 majeure quality levels, for most collectable "edged weapons." Though, there are actually many, sub, quality levels, these 3 are the most important to know, when starting out. Keep in mind that most places, that sell these weapons, will not list them as belonging to these categories, they are tittles that the collectors, themselves, usually give the items, to denote the quality of the weapon.

1. "Battel Ready" These are, just about, any "edged weapon" made of high-end Carbon Steel. Yes, I said Carbon Steel. And yes, it is a pain to take care of, but it's also, far more flexible, and resilient, then Stainless Steel. Weapons in this category tend to be much more expensive, and harder to find. There referred to as "Battel Ready" because they are just that, fit for battel. They can go toe, to toe, with another "Edged Weapon," and though you might not make it through the fight, your weapon probably will. These swords must be oiled regularly, and displayed, or stored, in a dry place, to avoid rust.

2. "Wale Hangers" (group 1) These are the commonly seen, and sold, Stainless Steel, weapons. Though, there are historical swords manufactured at this level, most of the time, they tend to be "fantasy" pieces, mint to recreate a weapon from a film, TV show, or the creation of a "Fantasy" weapon designer. These weapons, wall very sharp, and still very dangerous, are not fit for battel, as they are very brittle, and if pitted against another weapon, will splinter and/or shatter, into pieces. These swords, tend to be a little less expensive, and easier to care for, then there Carbon Steel counterparts, so if your just going to hang it on your wale, and forget it, these maybe right up your ally.

3. "Wale Hangers" (group 2) These are knockoffs, of the more quality "Wall Hangers". Just about every weapon, offered by a majeure "Wale Hanger" manufacturer, like "United Cutlery" for instance, is also offered in a knockoff version by an over seas manufacture. Some of these knockoffs, bearly look like there more expensive counterparts, wall others, really cant be told from the more expensive alternatives. The quality of materials used for these weapons, tends to be a bit less then the more expensive versions, but if your just going to hang them on the wall, why not save some money? And, where not talking a dime, or two, either. These knockoffs, usually, sell for far less the genuine article.

Wall, we have tried to, when posable, provide you with links to places that sell these items, in a variety of quality levels, these sites change often, and stock changes every day. So, if the links bellow, no longer take you to the object in question, then just do a quickie search of your own. This is not an end point for your collecting fun, it's just a posable starting point. Most of these items can still be found on ebay, at flee-markets, and sword shops. If they don't have them in stoke, be sure to ask if they can order them for you. It also doesn't hurt, to sign up for the free catalogs, offered buy "edged weapons" dealers, like "Atlanta Cutlery" or "Museum Replicas".

Also please keep in mind, that a number of these items can be very dagger's. The weapons listed here, are not toys. We do not condone, or encourage careless, or reckless, handling of these items, and we will not be held responsible for any miss use of these items.

NOTE: I have not ordered from any of the sites listed in this thread, and do not vouch for there reliability, security, availability, etc. I strongly suggest that you use this thread as a starting point for your own search.

This is the "Irish Sword" formerly offered through "Museum Replicas". Though there version is no longer for sale, these classic swords do show up on ebay, at flee-markets, and even the occasional sword shop.

Or, there is a, less then accurate, knockoff here:

This, in my mind, is more of a signature sword for the show. It was used throughout the series, including the opening credits for a number of years. It is a replica, of a "Medieval Short Sword". The replica used in the show was manufactured by "Del Tin", and they still make them for sale today.

Very similar replicas were offered by "Museum Replicas" and "Factory X", both of witch are currently out of production. However, if you look around, there are a few sword shops, and web sites, that have been clearancing these swords out, and they often sell for less then $80. (A reel steel, considering that the "Del Tin" Version sells for well over $350. and up)

This is a great sword, because not only is it an Angel prop, but very similar swords were seen in "Dracula" (the 90's version) and a number of other films. Not to mention, it is a replica, of a style of sword, that has a rich, real word, history of its own.

You can read about, and order, the "Del Tin" version used in the show, here:

http://albion-swords.com/swords/deltin/sword-dt2140.htm

You can read about the "Museum Replicas" version, and the real antique sword, here:

Note: The "Factory X" version is sold as "The Sword of Dracula", and comes with a coffin shaped plaque)

This is actually an oriental "Red Ceremonial TA-chi" manufactured by "United Cutlery". And, though it is currently out of production, it can be found for sale on a few web sites, at some sword shops, and even at some flee-markets. Here are a few of the sites that carry it:

Or, you could always go with, the less then accurate, knockoff, found here:

(Don't let the bad pic on that last site full you. The sword is red, though it is a shade, or two, darker then the "United Cutlery" version, used on the show. This version also has fewer symbols on the scabbard)

The knife that killed Wes, is a Kukri. A lot of Kukri style knives, have two large brass pins through the handle. These pins hold the two halves of the handle, to the tang. (the tang is the portion of the blade that extends the full length of the handle). However, these pins are not visible on the Kukri used in the show, and that has helped us narrow it down to just a few candidates. The front runners are:

officers Kukri
[image]http://members.aol.com/jedimasterjpb7/intry2/19[/image]
The "Officers Kukri" sold through AtlantaCutlery.com. (item # 400022)

"Assam Riflers Kukri"
[image]http://members.aol.com/jedimasterjpb7/intry2/20[/image]
And the "Assam Riflers Kukri" also sold by AtlantaCutlery.com. (item # 400578)

Personally, I like the "Officers Kukri" best for this prop. The color, shape, size, and overall design, is a nice match for the one used in the show. Whereas the "Assam Riflers Kukri", is a little too large, the color seems a bit too light, and it has a lien's head emblem on the pommel, that I just don't see on the real prop.

If you don't care about the scabbard, or side knifes, a local knife/sword shop should be able to order a similar knife, with out all the frills, for a little less.

This is of course is the sword that Buffy used to kill angle in the episode "Becoming, part 2". It is a classic, Medieval, Spanish design. Though, it's not hard to find a number of very similar swords on the market, there is going to be a licensed replica of it released by "Factory X" later this year.

Note. "Factory X" also planes on releasing a licensed replica of the Slayer Scythe, in the final episodes of Buffy's season 7.

This is a classic "Claddagh" ring, used in the show. Wall these rings are vary common, and easily found on ebay, at flee-markets, and just about any jewelry dealer, be very careful that you get the correct one. There are thousands of variations on this style of ring, so it can be tricky getting this exact ring, but they are out there.

Here's another easy one, this is just a simple, yellow, computer disk. We all have these laying around, and if not, you can get one cheep. But, be careful, it just might have the translation of the spell to re-insole Angel. :lol

I looked all over that site, and I can't find an axe like this one.

Don't know if it's any help, but here's a pic of a screen used axe:

Honestly, I think this is a custom made piece. The entire thing looks fabricated to me. Custom made blade, couple of sections of PVC pipe, wooden dowel and all held together by a couple of hex head bolts.
