AMT 1:3200 Romulan Warbird TNG (Finished 8/30)

Re: AMT 1:3200 Romulan Warbird TNG WIP (Update 8/30)

Rud, awesome job as ever mate; are you running her off batteries or a mains transformer. She does look very very nice (Eyes up his own inferior version in the corner and decides that it needs sorting)!

Re: AMT 1:3200 Romulan Warbird TNG WIP (Update 8/30)

No batteries, although that would have been cool. I figured I'd keep it simple for my first time with electricity. It's running off of a 12v 1a power supply, and the great thing is the LED strips have all the resistors built in, so all you have to do is run the wires.

Man, I'm sure getting a lot done today. I did a little more clean up on her just now, and did the detail painting on the upper hull. I also reshot the lower hull with the base color again, somehow it got messed up. Once it's dry I can do the detailing on the lower hull. I also shot some subtle grey in various spots all over. It's so close to being finished now I'm getting excited.

Done!

Well, except for the clear coat and the two romulan logo decals.

Nice subtle shading and that's where i went wrong, i loved that green so much that i convinced myself to use it all over. I think i will keep it green but also realise that there isn't much detail painting on this model and will stick with the 'undershading'. I do still want to pick out the feathered design but ill have a think before i finally go for it. The D7 is coming along nicely so i can put some effort back into the warbird.

Do it. Where is the D7 build Jim? I haven't seen anything on it.

I'll have more pictures up when I get home tonight.

I deliberately decided against a build thread for the D7, haven't even taken any pics of it myself as i go through. I decided that i just wanted to build a model and leisurely get on with it. I have it assembled and the lights fitted. Base coat and first top colour is on and i am trying to work out the best way to mask it all up; ill be doing some work on it tomorrow alongside having another look at the warbird. Ill add pics to the warbird build if i do any work but i'm just going to wait until he D7 is finished and publish the finished pics. Then i have various options for the next build which i will document and post the build thread.

WOW, now that is a nice build Rud and you have done yourself proud there. Nice to see how the engines light the underside too; i went for the glow in the dark elements instead of the clear ones so it will be interesting to see what effect that has overall (Especially since one of them no longer works!). I love the simple yet very effective paint job. Now get on and start cutting voyager windows out! :)

Thanks metal wood!

Jim, I used the glow in the dark as well. It seems to diffuse the light well. Also I put the strip lights in the top of the nacelle pointing down to avoid hot spots.

I think i used Green LED for the nacelles as the one colour i don't have for the strips is Green, Birthday soon so that will solve that. I don't know if you knew Rud but if you are using 12V strip LED on a reel that a 9V (PP3) battery will power the whole reel so using a battery would be easy. Its only when you start mixing strips and individual LED that power seems to be a problem. The D7 is coming on and i posted a couple of pics for you on the warbird build, since you asked.
