Amazing Spiderman Build

Hey guys! So it's time for my second costume, which is going to be the Amazing Spiderman suit! I've always wanted to make a spiderman costume, and it's actually how I found the RPF in the first place. I wanted to learn how to make the costume. When the movie first came out, my first reaction to the suit was "Oh, wow! That's um....different." I thought it was too far away from the classic spiderman suit we all know and love. But after a while, the Amazing Spiderman suit grew on me, and now it's one of my favorite spiderman costumes.

So I did about 4 months of research before actually taking any action towards making it. I eventually found a pattern that I really like, which is Taylor McManus' Amazing Spiderman pattern, but he wasn't selling them at the time. BUT, I checked on ebay and found that he was selling a few files there, so I immediately snatched one. Then I had Fabrics on Demand print it off, and it just arrived today!
Taylor's pattern is fantastic! I'm so happy with how it looks!

I'm so excited about starting on it!!! I've thought about having someone more skilled than me sew it, as I have very little sewing knowledge, but I really don't want to pay for it to be sewn, and I'd rather sew it myself because then it's more special to me. But my dad knows how to sew and I have about three friends at school who said they'd help me, and I learn quickly, so this shouldn't be too hard.
But I could always use as much help as I can get. So do you guys having any do's or don'ts, any tips on sewing this? My main question would be, is it recommended to somewhat hand sew it before using a sewing machine, so that you have a guide of sorts, and then getting rid of the hand stitching? Or does it matter?

I know very little about sewing and doing this, but I want this costume to turn out the best it can be.

So I've got some time this weekend to start on my spiderman costume. Do I need to cut the pattern out using pinking shears, or does it matter at this point?

Are you gonna paint your suit before get it sewn?

Yeah, I'm going to paint it first. It's all cut out now, so I just need to find the right paint. I'm not too excited about spending hours and hours painting it, but the paint just makes it look so incredible! So it's all worth it :)

Good luck buddy! Im just so lazy with the puff paint....not sure when Im gonna get it done :(

are you gonna sew it yourself or have it sent out???if you are gonna sew it yourself can you upload in the process pics... i am pretty much where you are but i am not touching my print yet... i bought some lycra and am tracing my print to practice sewing.

Thanks! Good luck to you too! I know what you mean. Mine's going to take a while to get done too. I just have to stay motivated!

Yeah, sure thing! I'm trying to get in the habit of taking more in progress pics, it's hard to remember! I'm going to TRY to sew it myself, even though I've never ever sewn before. But I'm going to practice on some scrap lycra first to get the feel of it. I'm kind of waiting though on this build because I'm in the process of sealing my God King foam costume, and I need to get puff paint still. I'm going to get the puff paint this coming weekend probably. All that and school makes for a busy schedule!
So yeah, my plan is to seal the foam armor this week, get puff paint this weekend, and then while I'm painting the foam I'll start puff painting my spiderman suit. I have roughly cut out the suit so it's easier to handle when painting.

Good luck finishing this baby before ASM2, I know there are a bunch of people here who could give tips on the sewing aspects. The hard part is hoping they stumble upon the thread.

Thanks, I'd love to finish before ASM 2, but I have no idea how long this will take! Yeah, I've just been searching for how to threads or anything helpful for sewing. I have a pretty good idea of what I need and how to do it, so I'm just going to do a lot of practice first to make sure.
