Aluminum cast Clone Trooper Helmet

Re: Aluminium cast Clone Trooper Helmet

Holy cow, unbelievable Skills you have. Just saw this for the first time and cant believe the work you put into it. Bravo!!!

Re: Aluminium cast Clone Trooper Helmet

the friend who's painting the helmets just sent me some pictures of the first results. I ll see them tomorrow so I ll post better photos than, but for now it looks great. he was a little bit kidding me wit the first shot though.

Some of you may will see 2 failures immediately: the shock troopers cheeks are not movie correct because the lower line should go directly to the outer shape of the ear and the stripe of the 501 seems a little bit too thin at the top to me. but I like them as they are and for me I lll be satisfied with them. for me they r looking great with the glossy. can't wait to finish them now with the black areas and the blue tube stripes.

just some better pictures. I still have to wait a little bit for the final coat to harden out. and there is still some work on it, but especially the red one is awesome to me.

Re: Aluminium cast Clone Trooper Helmet

Amazing results; that paint job is A+ in my book...now, onto the whole armour:D:cool

Re: Aluminium cast Clone Trooper Helmet

i like that the green one shows a lot of the aluminum. I'm sure many people who see it will have their mind blown like mine was.
1) See helmet and think "wow, that's really sharp. great paint job"
2) Wait, why is there silver paint where there should be black or white paint
3) That's not paint, that's aluminum
4) Mother of God! He made the whole helmet out of aluminum?!
5) pick up jaw off the floor

Re: Aluminium cast Clone Trooper Helmet

thank you for the patience words, although these helmets are not 100% movie accurate. but well, they are like a fetish object to me now. all these painting is a pretty unusual thing though, with these fine parts staying aluminum. I finished the painting of the shock trooper today after sanding and polishing some drippings in the clear coat and sandblasting the aluminum parts again. here are some low resolution pictures.

I ll finish the paint of the 501 until tuesday too and than start to do the interior. Between all these I m finishing my PUR helmet too, which had been the model for the aluminum helmets, I ll do a shock trooper too out of this one ( and this time movie accurate). If I ll ever do a completed armor I ll use this one for it than, so it will be weathered.

Amazing. Youve taken something that is considered junk by a lot of us and elevated it far above its humble beginnings.

And thats the point of art is it not?

Truly outstanding

Re: Aluminium cast Clone Trooper Helmet

I think a well deserved kudos goes to your friend for the painting, that is some sharp work!

Re: Aluminium cast Clone Trooper Helmet

Outstanding stuff - they look absolutely wonderful!

Re: Aluminium cast Clone Trooper Helmet

I can't stop myself coming back and looking at these helmets over and over again. Every time I do my jaw still drops. A remarkable project.

Re: Aluminium cast Clone Trooper Helmet

Not entirely accurate but a top class work indeed. Thanks for sharing

Re: Aluminium cast Clone Trooper Helmet

i can't believe how many times i have had to pick my jaw up off the ground just when i think "that is as good as it can get" i see the next thread. AWESOME, SUPERB, AMAZING even those words fall short of describing your project. thank you for sharing the process.

Re: Aluminium cast Clone Trooper Helmet

Alienbuilder, I am new to lost wax casting. I have been looking on the internet for supplies. Is there a special name or term used for the wax in this process? I mean, do casters refer to it by some other technical name?
