Aliens Motion Tracker build

Ok, I got my parts in, but I've hit a snag right out of the gates. I have a Kango 426 and I've got it almost completely gutted. Almost. I used the circlamp pliers to remove the circlamp and pulled the main gear out. However, I can't seem to get the metal box out of the drill. It wiggles and is loose, but I can't get it to come out. Once I get that part out and the drill cleaned up, I'll start posting pics. I'll be using the cyberdyne build tutorial.

Ok, here's a pic of the drill guts I still have left:

And here's a pic of the parts. T28 calc panel and widget are enroute.

Taking this apart was the biggest PITA I have come across in a while. I was able to remove the black tip where the bit goes and that exposed a circ clip that was holding everything in place. Once I removed that I was able to pull the gears out. I soaked the drill in hot water and Polmolive and that actually kind of solidified the grease. Then I used the spray hose from the sink to clean the grease out of the little nooks and crannies. Now I'm using brillo pads (the kind you use to clean dishes) to get all the crud off the outside of the shell. Once that's done, I'll wipe it all down with windex and start the assembly.

you can try blasting it with break cleaner or engine degreaser. you can get either at any auto parts store for like 3 dollars and its great at getting that kind of goop off.

The brillo pads took all the crud off the shell. I'll start the build this week and post progress shots.

The pump widget arrived, now just waiting in the T28 calc panel.

I've gotten the drill gutted and cleaned and the Jobo light, self timer, shutter release and timer box attached, as well as the plug added to the Hama viewer.

Hyperdyne's tutorial has been an invaluable resource. I'm loving this! This is going to be my very first 100% screen accurate/real prop!

Looking great so far Wes!

I'm actually kind of fond of the "naked" tracker look with all the components, minus the final paintjob.

Ok, got the viewer hardware finished up and the viewer attached as well as the widget. Yeah, I realize the widget is upsided down. I caught that after the picture was taken and since fixed. Next up, the transformer.

I cant wait to see you make the real deal, I bet thats a nightmare though, look forward to keeping my eye on this post.....

Looks beautiful, dude! I ripped the tracker sounds (the click and the ping noises) from the new Aliens Vs. Predator game. If you want to have them, PM me and I'll send them to you.

I once had all the parts to build one of these, but that was around the time MR released it's replica.
I decided to sell my parts and buy one of the MR versions. I figured there's was all done, and it had lights and sound, which I couldn't afford to install in mine. I even had some cash left over. Now I'm wondering if I did this because it was easier than building one from the ground up.:unsure

You are a brave man following through on this, and it's looking good!
